I have a perscription for "tretinoin cream .025%". Does this really work? I have tried so many facial products for my adult acne. I am 37, african american with oily skin. I have facial acne in my T zone where the oil is mainly my forhead. I am convinced my acne messes up only when I have no sex in my life! Does this really work? how long will it take? and what other product would you recommend with it in the morning after washing your face?

Russian! Hell Yeah!! replied: "I used tretinoin cream .05%? I think. Then when I finished with that tube, I moved up to .1%. My skin gotten clear only after a year since my acne was really bad. My skin got really really dry using it. Make sure you use enough moisturizing cream the night before. Your skin may seem more oily throughout the day (saying from personal experience), but it was totally worth it. Also don't use a lot of tretinoin cream in one area because you can end up with loss of color pigment. It wasn't really noticeable until I got a tan where one spot just stood out. I had a prescription for "Clindamycin Phosphate Topical Solution Pledget 1%" at the same time. They were basically wipes (used twice a day) for the face containing isopropyl alcohol. I kind of freak out after six months since I wanted faster results. I asked the doctor for YAZ which is typically a birth control pill, but it stopped breakouts."

help please, Tretinoin cream .025% and clindamycin 1%? I am using them tretinoin at night and clindamycin during the day. its been over a month now and my face is starting to peel and buring and stinging and itching.it's hard to smile or move my lips. and its happening on my whole face, i don't use cotton balls to apply them, just my fingers. my skin is also chapping. should i keep useing it? what should i do? im going to see my dermatlogist monday.

Skin911 replied: "tretinoin is responsible for peeling of your skin; clindamycin is the antiboitic (i presume this is for acne); now that you're peeling, you can DECREASE usage of the tretinoin to avoid further and unnecessary peeling; but continue the clindamycon for continuous bacterial protection; peeling/exfoliation is necessary to remove the topmost dull skin that clogs your pores and prevent blemishes to occur; while clindamycin kills the bacteria.. tretinoin makes peeled skin more sensitive to the sun so it's IMPORTANT to wear sunscreen to prevent sun damage and uneven skin tone. other thing, use cotton balls to apply the medication.. it's less infectious and pressure on the face. :-)"

Tretinoin cream 0.025% question..? My mom bought me this Tretinoin cream 0.025% today and she told me that if I applied it, and I go out the next day, I need to wear a hat and avoid the sun. Is this really true? I mean, i live in San Francisco, and there isn't much sun here, but if I applied it at night before I went to bed and in the morning, I clean my face with a towel.. would I really need to go out and wear a hat? If my skin dries out, is it okay if I put lotion on my face?

Brittany replied: "No, I have used it for about a month now and i've not had any problem with the sun. I live in Missouri and i'm also a redhead so if anyone was to have problems with this and the sun it would be me. The only thing that has happened is my skin has dried out a little, not bad tho and that's also because of the weather change here, so i wouldn't worry about wearing a hat outside, you shouldn't have any problems :)"

I have been using Tretinoin Cream .025% as perscribed by my doctor. and now...? my acne is worse. my face is red. and my face burns. whats going on?

greydoc6 replied: "First, you should discuss these with your doctor. However, these are common side effects. The flare-up should be temporary. The redness may be due to over-application. Or, you may have sensitive skin, most typical in some blondes and redheads. Try using less cream, perhaps every other day until your skin acclimates. Avoid sun exposure if you can, but apply the tretinoin during a time of day when you are active. Applying before bedtime, when there are fewer distractions, only increases your awareness of tingling and burning."

tretinoin cream 0.025? Has this cream helped with acne? Does it cause more for a long period of time before clearing up? Opinions on this cream would be helpful thanks!

princesaajess replied: "i used that before and it does get worst before it gets better. or at least that's what the dermatologist told me but i stopped taking it because it made my skin break out so much more that i didn't want to wait for it to get "better""

Annie K replied: "I work at a derm office, and if the Tretinoin cream isn't helping, I would contact your MD that gave it to you and let them know your acne is not improving with it. There are many other creams and ointments that are out there, and many times with acne, it is a trial and error thing, you have to try some prescriptions until you find the one that works the best for you. It is not uncommon for people to come in complaining that a certain prescription did absolutely nothing for them! The doctor should definetely have you try another type of prescription."

Can tretinoin cream cause discoloration? I've been prescribed Tretinoin cream 0.025 for acne and I've been using it for 2 weeks now. I'm getting the usual side effects that everyone gets like the minor skin irritation and the peeling. Nothing severe though. But recently i've been getting dark spots on the sides of my cheeks. Can tretinoin cause discoloration? I'm sure this isn't a sunburn because I stay out of the sun as much as possible and when I do go out I use sunblock with spf30.

Jason N replied: "it shouldnt cause discoloration, at least my doctor didnt mention that to me when I used to use it, he said it can cause bleaching to clothing and such. I would check out the dark spots with your dermatologist."

Tooly replied: "OH man my doctor prescribed me that and I used it....and it realllly killed my skin. My skin dryed up and itched like crazy. I suggest you stop using it cause if you keep on using it, your skin will get use to it. It did cause discoloration....that's when I stopped using it. Try some aloe vera. It helps ALOT. Itches alot but it helps."

Can "Tretinoin 0.025 cream TRI" be used for stretch marks?(10pt Question)? My doctor recently per-scribed this cream for me.I got it and it said that it is used for people who have acne or mark on face. Can this cream really be used on strech marks?

Щїʼnάķσ Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ replied: "Tretinoin (anti-oxidant Vitamin A cream -- brand name Retin-A cream) improves the deeper collagen layer, by restoring health and thickness to this layer as well as improved blood supply. This results in smoother, firmer skin and helps eliminate fine wrinkles. Your skin will look and feel smoother and softer."

harley replied: "i would use bio-oil it is specially formulated 4 stretch marks, wrks really well"

Tretinoin Cream...0.025? Help? I told my normal doctor I wanted to go to the dermatologist, and she just slapped this stuff my way instead. I have normal/getting really bad acne, and I don't want it there, of course. So, would this work for me? And also...I have no idea when to use this, how often to use this, and for how long. So please help out?

Lindsay J replied: "I use it and it really works! It should come with a mild cleanser called SFC lotion. If not go out and get clean and clear in shower soft face scrub. After you wash your face and it drys, apply a dab of the cram on your face and rub most of it in. In the morning try to find a medication called duac to use. Will my acne go away with Benzaclin, Tretinoin Cream (0.025%), and Doxycycline? I went to the derm. on Wednesday, and he prescribed these three. Will they really work? How long before my face will be clear? He also recommended I use Dove face wash, since it is gentle. Thank you zitdr_02! :)

zitdr_02 replied: "Every dermatologist has his/her own pet regimen. Whereas the one that you were given is not one that I normally would prescribe, it should help your acne, no matter whether you have papulopustular type or blackhead type. It might be a little drying on your skin at first, but hang in there. You should see some appreciable results by the three to four week period."
