Here are a few healthy eating tips and guidelines:
1. Start your day with a good, wholesome breakfast. Never skip this meal. For that matter, don't skip lunch and dinner either. It is very important to have regular meals. And as important to not graze between meals.
2. Eat in moderation. Many people seem to eat to pass the time or fill some inner, non-stomacular vacuum. If you find yourself heading down that path, stop immediately and assess your situation. Develop another hobby. Like gardening. Weeding, I mean. Don't gravitate unerringly towards the fruit trees and the vegetable patch.
3. Make sure there is enough variety in your diet. Eating just one or two of the same foods every day can turn tedious in the long run. But, more than that, a varied diet will provide you with a good balance of the necessary nutrients, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, flavonoids, proteins, carbohydrates, fats, etc. Too much of one thing or too little of another can lead to problems.
4. Your daily diet should include plenty of fresh vegetables, fresh fruit, whole grains, pulses, sprouts, nuts, and dairy products, especially fermented and cultured products like curd, yogurt, etc. And, if you are a non-vegetarian, also fish and poultry products. Too much of red meat is not recommended.
5. Generally, unprocessed or minimally processed and organic foods should be preferred over processed and inorganic foods. Processed foods are not only low in nutrients, they contain artificial preservatives and flavors that can prove harmful to your health. It is better to go for brown rice, brown bread, whole grain pasta, natural honey rather than white rice, white bread, pasta, and artificial sweeteners. Buy canned or frozen foods only if it is not possible to buy fresh fruit, vegetables, fish, meat, etc.
6. Make sure you thoroughly wash and, if necessary, peel fruit and vegetables before you eat or cook them. This will get rid of soil particles, wax layers, and micro-organisms. This is pretty elementary, but many people often forget to stop by the tap on the way to the cooking ranger.
7. Don't overcook the food as that will result in a loss of valuable nutrients. Steam vegetables or have them raw. Adding a little turmeric to the vegetables is very beneficial. Try different or new recipes that you have not tried before. The Internet is a great source to find a great variety of national and international recipes. Trying new methods of food preparation will increase your enjoyment of the meal.
8. It is not necessary to completely give up the high fat foods like butter, cream, cheese, ice creams, or 'junk' food like potato chips, hamburgers, fried chicken, etc. Just limit your intake. Eat less often or eat smaller portions. So long as you know to keep your food portions to a reasonable amount, you can continue eating everything that you want and still remain healthy.
9. Don't gulp down your food. Eat slowly and chew well. This helps with digestion. Including starters like soups or broths will also assist the digestive process.
10. Cut down on sodas, soft drinks, tea, coffee, and artificially flavored drinks. Instead, go for milk, butter-milk, natural fruit juice, and plenty of water. You should drink at least 2 liters of water every day.
11. Alcohol is not good for you. If you can't live without alcohol, try moderation and limit your intake to one glass maximum per day. Or prepare to live with a liver malfunction at some later date.
12. Time your last meal - dinner or supper - atleast 3 or 4 hours before your usual bedtime. Drink a glass of lemon juice and go for a short walk to aid digestion. And don't get up in the middle of the night to raid the refrigerator. Give your digestive system a rest to prepare it for breakfast."
Is my diet nutritionally balanced and ok for weight loss? I know that some people advise cutting out carbs to speed up weight loss but I find taking the carbs out of my diet leaves me feeling constantly tired and lethargic, so I try to eat good quality carbs and slow-release energy. My activity/exercise level is fairly high.
Can anyone tell me if my diet is ok? Here are two sample days of what I eat -
Day 1
Breakfast: Porridge/oatmeal (made using soya milk) with blueberries and almonds.
Lunch: 1 wholemeal tortilla wrap filled with lettuce, tomato and chicken breast.
Afternoon snack: 1 pear with a tbsp of pumpkin seeds.
Dinner: Chickpea curry (healthy recipe, no creams/excess fats) on a bed of spinach.
Day 2
Breakfast: 1 poached egg with reduced sugar baked beans and spinach.
Lunch: Tuna with salad
Afternoon snack - 2 oatcakes with hummus
Dinner - Turkey steak with broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage.
Crim Liar replied: "This is a test isn't it? Normally people ask this question and then post some stupid diet that wouldn't fill a lethargic pet rabbit!
Looking at your diet, it ticks all but one box, and I'm pretty sure that's an oversight. Just make sure you are getting enough fluids and I'm sure you'll be fine!"
GG replied: "My dear,
I've studied weight loss and nutrition for many years and your diet is absolutely wonderful! Complex carbs are a boon to energy and weight loss. Your diet includes adequate protein to fuel your muscles, complex carbs for energy and plenty of nutritious veggies. You've obviously done your homework. I think you know you're on the right track.
Kudos!
GG"
Sarah B replied: "Hello
First, I understand where you're coming from.
Here's what I found out after lots of research and trial and error, the hard way.
The reality is that there are no shortcuts or easy ways to get in good shape. Sorry, but someone needed to tell you this.
As long as you get conscious about what you are doing, you will see the results.
Below you will find the four principles that you need to keep in mind in your weight-loss journey.
1.Forget About Diets
People that go from diet to diet never reach a stable weight, let alone a good shape. The reason is quite simple: diets are, by their very nature, temporary. You can’t expect to eat properly for two or three weeks and fix your weight problems for the rest of the year.
2.Proper Nutrition
If you want to keep your weight and fat percentage under control, you will need to learn the basics of nutrition. Once you learn them, you will be able to eat healthy throughout the year.
3.Physical Exercise
Eating healthy and having a caloric deficit will only take you half the way. The other key factor is physical exercise.
4.Discipline and Perseverance
You can start eating healthy and exercising properly, but unless you stick doing it regularly, the results won’t appear (if they do, they won’t last).
Discipline and perseverance are key here.

It is a great program that helped me."
Is this a good weight loss thingy? i wake up at like 6.30 run on my treadmill's weight lose program(pretty much cardio) for 30 min, eat something like oatmeal or pop tarts (if in rush). Then i got school till 3 or so... come home then around 4 or so i do strength training with decent weights lol. and i eat something small every couple hours, like some pumpkin seeds or sumthing. and yea that pretty much it...
may goal is more to increase my metabolism. i read running in the morning and strength in after noon is like how to do that.
so is this a good way for me to lose weight and help keep it off?....well if it is good i will keep doing it cause i like doing it
smiller1524 replied: "It all sounds good to me until you get to the eating part of things... I think you should probably eat some sort of solid meal in the evening. I have read that it is also unhealthy to eat after 6PM because your metabolism slows down in the evening. If you are trying to loose weight or just keep weight off this all sounds good, but I think you better try a little different diet (eating) plan."
Raw Food Diet && Weight Loss ? Starting a raw food diet, to lose a few pounds, also just for health reasons. I'm already a vegetarian so no meat.
Just getting opinions.
SAMPLE MEAL PLAN
Breakfast
Fresh fruit salad topped with chopped fresh almonds, wheat germ, and pumpkin seeds; organic sheep’s milk yogurt or coconut cream.
Lunch
Mixed salad of various leaves, tomatoes, mandarins, corn, yellow capsicums, onions and parsley with olive oil and balsamic vinegar dressing. Topped with sprouted lentils.
Dinner
Raw mixed vegetable soup (blended); home-made sunflower seed cheese; 1/2 avocado; raspberry and banana sorbet.
kate c replied: "I make a lot of dishes that are raw, such as beet ravioli, but it takes awhile to make and a few appliances are needed. Do you have a mandoline and a food processor?
The lunch salad sounds so good right now.
I personally cant really help you with a meal plan, I just eat apples, bananas, salads, and the occassional planned meal like the beet ravioli.
Email me through my profile if you want actual recipes from some of the books I have."
Is this a good diet for healthy longterm weight loss? DAY 1
Breakfast - Porridge oats (27g) with soya milk, almonds and pumpkin seeds. 1 tsp of manuka honey if I'm feeling naughty.
Lunch - Small white fish fillet with lentils and dark green veggies.
Snack - Carrot batons and houmous.
Dinner - Chicken breast with broccoli, cauliflower and sprouts.
Dessert - Greek yogurt and raspberries.
DAY 2
Breakfast - 2 medium poached eggs, 1 rasher turkey bacon, 1 quorn sausage and plum tomatoes.
Lunch - King prawns and salad.
Dinner - Spicy tuna steak with couscous and kale.
Dessert - Banana.
I do quite a lot of exercise. Is this diet okay?
finafoshizzle replied: "this seems like a great diet! It has a good balance of carbs, protein, and fat so you won't feel deprived, but its low in calories. For exercise, make sure you mix it up a little so your body doesn't get used to doing the same exercises over and over. Also be sure to do a mix of cardio and weight training. Good luck!"

AnswerMe replied: "WOW! Great job! I can't think of anything else to write, but that you are doing a great job."
Hedge Witch replied: "No - I don't think it is.
But then everyone has different requirements.
I would be having hypos all over the place and have to reduce my insulin dramatically, my IBS would be running rampant after less than a week of this and I would have acid indigestion as well."
pasha39571 replied: "Looks good, however, if you are an insulin controlled diabetic, I would have one or two reservations about the amount of low GI carbs in Day Two. Considering you are supposed to eat carbs to address the insulin you inject, I feel it would be better to increase the seeds, nuts and grains a little.
However, if you are diet controlled only, Then it looks rather good. It closely resembles the Slimming World diet which is perfect for loosing weight if you are diabetic.
I wish you the best of luck!"
How do i cut and maintain weight for mma? I currently weigh in at superheavyweight(140kg/308lbs) and really want to cut down to heavyweight(120kg/265lbs) within the next 8 months before i start training in a proper mma club. i do have a gut but im not completely flabby im 6ft 1 and am quite flexible for my size . i am at school 11 hours a day 5 days a week with rugby and/ weight training(strength and conditioning) within that time, my diet (which ive changed 4 weeks ago)consists of low fat yohgurt with a spoonful of porridge, sunflower+pumpkin seeds and an apple for breakfest, celery and rice cakes for mid morning snack, 2 ham sandwiches for lunch and a piece of fruit, my pre rugby training snack is a bannana my dinner is usually whatever my mother makes but i do not eat any junk made like pizza, burgers chips etc. usually stew, soup, pasta , chicken and potatoes, stir fry etc. and my evening snack is a handful of mixed nuts and raisins no soft drinks / junk food, i also make a point to drink a gallon(4 litres) of water a day , the only time i get to train outside school is the weekend where i focus on mostly strike work if i cant find my other amaeture training partners for ground work, some timed muscular endurance rounds( like weights with cardio) sometimes a jog or an hour on the rower for cardio,, i do take 2 supplements by maximuscle(High protein PROMAX and the energy and recovery VIPER EXTREME).My fitness improves more every day though it is not impressive,i dont give a shit about my appearence ,all i want to do is cut dwn to at least 225/235 and maintain that weight not only to feel healthier but to fight in the weight class i want, . i ask the above question because after 7 weeks of the mentioned training regimen(we do a lot of pre season rugby training) and 4 weeks on the above mentioned diet i have no results on the scale at all i have even considered a highly recommended weight loss supplement lean system 7 ,, any advice given would be very much appreciated
jinglehimer36 replied: "Basically you have to exercise more and eat less. I would be careful about the supplements because sometimes they have your body retain water and can cause cramping.
You should be running a ton for rugby, that will help. The most important thing is exercise to lose weight.
*I'd say, drink water, run as much as you can, eat healthy, avoid beer/soft drinks/junk as you say you will do."
Rollin replied: "I want to get in MMA too. I'm also 308 pounds but bearly 6'0. So on paper we're virtully identical. I'm trying to Jogg/run (Because I'm fat & have shitty cardio) atleast 45 mins a day and walk 90. I do a bunch of other things as well but I don't want to go on & on.
Do you got a Myspace or something so we can exchange our knowledge. Since we have the same interest."
alexellis replied: "Use this website it has everything you will need to find a diet plan and exercise regime that will suit you.
As you want to get into MMA I would of gave you the workout and diet regime I use to cut and maintain weight, but seeing as you are big it won't be of much use because I walk around at 195 lbs so I only cut 10 or 25 lbs and I am really flexible.
Good luck with your weight loss goal, and don't lose a big amount of weight too quick because you could potentially become ill."
