About Heartburn Ice Cream in Answers
Why does ice cream help soothe my heartburn and milk does not and neither does sour cream? They are all dairy products so why does one work and not the other?

My Dog will eat your Cat replied: "I think it has something to do with the sugar and the fact that it is cold. When i have an upset stomach I like to eat ice cream."

dustee replied: "Hmmm that a good one. I take Zantac but I would rather have ice cream"

I notice when eat something sweet then i get heartburn, did this happen to you? When i eat something sweet like chocolate, cake, ice cream,i get heartburn which is awful, also when i eat more than normal i get the heartburn. Did this happen to you pregnant woman?

mom of 3 replied: "I get heartburn from everything, even water somtimes. It sucks, but just another wonderful side effect of pregnancy. 39 weeks and counting..."

an intern replied: "this happens to me yes, i think it is because it breaks down into acids in the stomach and comes back up and gives GI problems. take a tums"

36 Wks w Baby Girl replied: "I can eat/drink just about anything and get heartburn lol. I just popped two tums about 5 minutes ago for this reason :) Remember the old wives tale, heartburn=hair :) I saw on a 3d/4d ultrasound that my baby has tons of hair, guess the wives tale rang true for me haha To the person below me, its doesnt mean its bad for you...i get heartburn from ice water and salad..."

he is healthy now replied: "yes.in a silly way it is your body's way of saying this is unhealthy"

Pink or blue?!?! replied: "oh yea i noticed more in my 3rd trimester. mainly spicy and sour things.~Good luck~"

Heather replied: "I also have this experience (however I used to get heartburn/acid reflux with EVERYTHING). I think the reason sugary food causes heartburn is because of the fat. I've noticed that when I eat high calorie, high fat, high sodium foods I tend to get way worse heartburn. If the heartburn/reflux gets too bad don't be afraid to treat it. I went almost my entire pregnancy (8 months) thinking that I would just have to suffer through it..waking up in the middle of the night almost choking, getting sick, and overall just being miserable as soon as a laid down. Then I found prilosec...I know it sounds silly but I took one 14 day treatment of it and seriously I can eat anything now without the discomfort and can actually sleep at night. Thank god for that stuff!"

Jessica W replied: "yes, but only when i would eat spicy foods (which never happened before) Just have tums after. it makes t he heartburn go away, and its extra calcium for your baby :)"

sunshinyorange replied: "Honey, I get heartburn when I drink water. At least you don't *have* to eat sweets. We kinda have to drink water though, lol. Pregnancy is weird. You'd think we'd get heartburn from eating spicy Mexican food or something acidic, but I guess it's caused by different foods for all of us. Aren't hormones horrible little things? LOL"

36 weeks❤ replied: "EVERYTHING gives me heartburn even water gives me heartburn!"

When I drink milk, I get a painful lump in my throat that feels a bit like heartburn. Why? Whenever I drink milk or eat yogurt or ice cream, I get a painful lump in my throat and esophagus that feels a bit like heartburn. It only happens when I drink milk. The lump hurts and I produce a lot of phlegm. Why does this happen and what can I do to stop it?

Indigo replied: "With the phlegm, it might be a mild allergy reaction."

Cathi replied: "sounds like you might be lactose intollerant or have an ulcer, neither should be played around with. go to the dr ASAP"

18 wks pregnant..rum raisin ice cream...hot lays? ok ill be 18 weeks pregnant tomorrow and ive been craving rum raisin ice cream for the past couple days and the hot lays hot chips...im not so worried about the chips because i know it can cause a little heartburn and indigestion and i can dea with that as ive been craving alot of spicy stuff lately lol, its the ice cream im concerned about...is it safe to eat during pregnancy?

Rosy Z replied: "ice cream i think so, i never heard of ice cream being bad for you when your pregnant? first for me."

Tweak replied: "As long as it's not soft serve, it's fine. The rum in rum raisin icecream is only an essence in most cases and has no alcohol content. Just check, but if it's rum raisin that you've bought from a supermarket you'll be fine. Generally alcohol has a very low freezing temperature which means it's not appropriate for use in icecream as it prevents it from freezing well."

TaraExpecting #3-1st is an angel replied: "Ice cream is perfectly safe, even the rum raisin. I have been craving these spicy pretzels a lot, and as long as I eat them in moderation, I am fine, if I overdo it, I get really nauseous, so just don't eat too many of them. I am 16 weeks and I am craving spicy stuff too."

SM replied: "i think icecream is best thing to eat when you have heart burn ... even i eat it every day after meal to prevent acidity .. I am 27 weeks now ."

What can I do to relieve heartburn? I have terrible heartburn (haven't had it since I was preggo 3 years ago). What can I do to relieve some of it? I can't eat ice cream or drink milk--I'm lactose intolerant.

dec458 replied: "I take 300 mg a day of Zantac. Works wonders to relieve heartburn and acid reflux."

how to ease a heartburn? during pregnancy, will crackers and cold milk or ice cream help to ease heartburn? I don't eat spicy food or deep fried foods, but I still get heartburn. Why? Please give a good advice of how I could avoid of getting heartburn. Thanks.

mom of twins replied: "I had all throughout my pregnancy and I lived on Tums and pepcid AC my doctor said was ok to take."

Ash replied: "TUMS or Rolaids, if all else fails you can get a prescription from your Dr for zantac. Ash-Good luck"

redwine_311 replied: "apple cider vinegar is always good when not pregnant, it is worth a shot."

MrsZ replied: "I hear you on this one, me too with the hideous heartburn. Every time your baby grows your uterus gets a little bigger and pushes on all your organs. Your stomach gets pushed around, is able to hold less and less, too. I did the same thing as the smart Answers mama did, Tums and Pepcid. There is an antacid gum that I liked too. Stock up on the tums and get some over the counter pepcid and take it regularly. Dairy made me more miserable than anything else. I just sipped water, chewed tums and nibbled saltines when I had heartburn. The minute you deliver it's over; your tummy will be fine."

Can you just randomly have a heartburn? I never have heartburns, regardless of what i eat, never get them. But last night was terrible, i had a really bad one, i was crying and screaming and my chest was palpitating. It felt like the left side of my chest was on fire.I haven't had ice cream in about 6-8months and I had some yesterday, is it possible this could have been the cause? actually maybe it was the skittles i had, i had quite a lot

Voetsch replied: "Yes, that's entirely possible. Most heartburn is linked to specific foods you eat."

Mary replied: "Yes, heartburn can be random...depends on what you eat. Find out what causes it and avoid it. that is all there is to it."

<3 Sunshine!☮ replied: "ohh sames! i get awful heartburn when i eat butter and like fatty foods like icecream and pastry i had a piece of apple pie and i pretty much cried myself to sleep. if youve noticed foods that make you feel sick then i think all you can do is avoid them i dont know about where you live but in victoria they have these tablets that you chew called quick eze and they are the best i swear by them and they just kinda reduce alllll the acid in your tumtum anbd make you feel better and you can have like upto 4 of them or 1 of them depending on how bad it is its really good anywho yes it is very very possible and probably you are right cause the same thing happens to me!"

can dairy pro give u heartburn? i heard if your lactose intolerant you have bloating gas and heartburn is this true about the heartburn .. woke up the other night with heartburn really bad that day i had ice cream and a grilled cheese ..

Vahid replied: "Maybe. Milk intolerance may bring about nausea, cramps, bloating and diarrhea. But many factors can cause a heartburn..including coffee, alcohol, spicy foods, and emotional stress."

Im scared to go to the doctors in fear of dissapointment? The test says im NOT pregnant, and i havent had a period for 7 weeks!! I always get period cramps when im about to get my period (i was pregnant twice before both ended in miscarriage and even then i got a lil cramps during the 2week wait) BUT this time throught the whole time I havent had ANY period pains AT ALL. My last period was JUNE 16th I spotted brownish/rusty red for 2 days on the 7th July and then for a day on the 24th July since then NOTHING at all. I get clear discharge after i wipe when i wee (sorry tmi) I use the bathroom very often my breats are just a bit painful nothing dramatic and they're itchy, the bumps around the aerola are sticking loads more up and breasts are larger, when i put a hand over my uterus it feels like a little pouch! I also have: Dizziness, heartburn, headaches, some quesiness, crave for ice cream & face break outs! Whats going on? I took several test all are negative and the digital 1 has just confirmed it. Has anyone had this preoblem before? If so how did it turn out?

Rocker Wife replied: "I just answered your last question. Go to the doctor. You won't get the help you need until you go. It sounds like you need a blood test to know for sure, so get going!! Good luck!!"

kim715 replied: "go to the doctor!!!!"

HONEYB1 replied: "No I haven't had this problem because i am still ttc but you need to go to the doctor to be sure or wait to take a test. Make sure you are using your first morning's urine to take the test and that you are waiting the appropriate amount of time."

Wanna-Be-Mommy replied: "Going to the doctor can only help you. Trust me. My husband and I have been TTC for over 2 years now. I just made the first appointment. I was scared too, but if something is wrong, you need to find out now and get it taken care of. Otherwise, it would be a waste of valuable time that you could be spending with your future children. That's how I looked at it, and it helped me. Good luck."

luisamapacha replied: "All the symptoms are in your head. Get over it."

Dolphin bubbles replied: "It might just take you a while longer to build up enough HCG (pg hormone) in your system for the HPT to show up positive, Don't be afraid to see your doctor, Some women wont get a positive result with a HPT but will with a blood pg test, I know this because when I got pg with my daughter 13 years ago, no HPT that I took ever gave me a positive result but when I was giving a blood pg test I was indeed pg by 3 months and I did not even know it, so it is worth going to your doctor and get a blood pg test done."
