After years on Prozac DR went w/Pristiq didn't work well. Anyone try Zoloft? Experiences Please? These meds are for depression and I was on Prozac for approx. 5 years and felt it quit working. Pristiq is new and very expensive, no generic, and didn't work well for me. My DR says do what I think works best...how should I know? Should I go back to the Prozac? Try Zoloft or Effexor? I do suffer from anxiety and depression.

libbylibbylibby replied: "I use effexor and really like how it works. My friend tried zoloft and it made her feel like being mean to people. I have anxiety and have found that inderal...(a beta blocker) and the effexsor..very small dose 37.5 mg takes the edge off enuf to feel good but not "drugged", but it is expensive too. Worth it if you ask me! There is a combination that will work, you just have to figure it out."

ColoradoVertigo replied: "These meds are always somewhat frustrating- I went through about seven different ones over the course of 8 years or so before finding something that I really feel worked. I have not ever been on Prozac or Pristiq, but I have used both Zoloft and Effexor- I know people who have had great results on these but they didn't seem to do much for me, and my dosages were up very high. I switched to lexapro about a year ago and have really seen an improvement with it. So, my suggestion would be to try others, give them a sufficient amount of trial time, and see what works for you. Everyone is wired differently so, what worked or didn't work for me might work for you. I'm surprised your Dr. isn't giving you more guidance about the issue, though! Anyhow, hope this helps and Good Luck!"

kira.devine replied: "Zoloft was prescribed to my mother who was told she'd be dead in a few weeks! It really seemed to work for her!! Mornings were real bad! She'd be depressed, it was hard to get her to take her pills, but once she did, it was great! she was the life of the party so to speak!"

puffthetragicdragon2000 replied: "I've found both Zoloft and Effexor Extended-Release to be helpful, but I also found Prozac helpful. But I think I tended to take certain things too seriously in the 1990s, and taking too many things too seriously is not a good prescription for happiness."

lil bit replied: "Zoloft didn''t help me. I have Depression and Anxiety too. The best combination for me has been: Abilify 5-15mg daily Depression - and helps my OCD too) Wellbuterin SR 200 mg daily (depression and stopped smoking) Luvox 100 mg daily (OCD, depression) Klonopin 0.5 - 1mg daily or as needed (for anxiety)"

carol p replied: "I have been on Paxil for years and it works and sometimes i have to up the dose and sometimes lower it. Maybe you should go back to your prozac as it was working and just try and larger dose. Good luck to you."

Can anyone tell me their experiences with Wellbutrin? Previously I have tried Zoloft, Pristiq and Lexapro. My doc convinced me to give the meda another try. How does it compare?

Peter replied: "No idea, I'm curious to see what people say though. I've been on Zoloft, Lexapro, Prozac, and Cymbalta. None of them worked for me. I might just kill myself."

Jino replied: "I am on Wellbutrin (100mg) once a day for depression. At first, I liked it. Then they moved me to 150mg, then 300mg per day. I became irritable, nervous, my eyelids twitched uncontrollably, and my vision was blurry. My BP partner took more s..t from me than I did from him but in the end, it was lowered back to 100mg. I also take Ambien, DiovanHCT for blood pressure and Prevacid. Am convinced that it's a good thing, but it doesn't work well in combination with alot of other drugs. It's really an individual thing but be careful whatever you do because it's also capable of inducing seizures. Your Pdoc should know EVERYTHING that goes on with you emotionally and physically...even when you think it's unimportant. With depression/depressive disorders...NOTHING is unimportant...Live healthy.."

has anyone seen any weight loss on pristiq? today I just got samples of pristiq. Kinda nervous but Iv been taking zoloft for three years and gained sixty pounds so I just got pristiq hoping that I wont gain anymore wight.

Miss Dior replied: "I have been on it for 2 weeks now. I was taking Lexapro and i gained 6 pounds in a month! The Pristiq makes you not have much of an appetite. So, you should lose. It took me a week to get used to it. I was so sleepy and my depression and anxiety was worse. Then, literally, over night I woke up a new woman! I LOVE it! I feel so good and it has only been 2 weeks. So, it should get better and better! Good luck!"

What should I expect from Zoloft? I ws previously on Pristiq, then I found out that I was pregnant..I stopped the Pristiq and started having hardcore withdraw symptoms..so my OB put me on Zoloft (the generic) I just started taking it today (its says half a pill once a day for seven days, then go up to a whole pill a day) What side effects should I expect? Or if you ahve any advice, that would be great too..thanks!

Solarine replied: "Zoloft side effects Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: skin rash or hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Call your doctor at once if you have any new or worsening symptoms such as: mood or behavior changes, anxiety, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, or if you feel impulsive, irritable, agitated, hostile, aggressive, restless, hyperactive (mentally or physically), more depressed, or have thoughts about suicide or hurting yourself. Call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects: very stiff (rigid) muscles, high fever, sweating, fast or uneven heartbeats, tremors, overactive reflexes; nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, feeling unsteady, loss of coordination; or headache, trouble concentrating, memory problems, weakness, confusion, hallucinations, fainting, seizure, shallow breathing or breathing that stops."

Simon W replied: "My wife takes Zoloft for anxiety ocd and panic attacks, it works well and has no side effects. You will get withdrawal effects from Pristiq but not as bad as from Effexor. I hope you get on fine with the Zoloft, just give it a few weeks to work."

girl replied: "I was on Zoloft for a while and it worked well for me. I quit it cold turkey and had not with drawl from it. The only side effect that I noticed when I first started taking it was that I was extremely tired but after about a week that corrected itself."

Which antidepressants, that you have tried or still taking, good/bad experiences and recommendations? I've tried Cymbalta, Pristiq and Lexapro with little success. A high dose of Prozac seemed to work fairly well, thus far. I was interested in more information on Paxil, Zoloft and Effexor. I like the idea of the XR or CR dosage if available. Thanks in advance.

jamie replied: "I currently take Prozac. I have been on Zoloft and Effexor. Zoloft made me a little crazy. I started participating in risky behavior and was very impulsive. I was also on Effexor for about 2 months and It just didn't help. The worst part was getting off of it. It physically hurts. It feels like there are small explosions going on in your brain. This wouldn't stop until I would take another one. Keep in mind that this was while I was following my doctor's instructions for discontinuing. I hated that drug! I have been taking Prozac for about a year now. It has been great for me. My doc had to keep increasing my dose also. I am on the second to the maximum dose. I wouldn't say that I am perfectly happy all of the time, but I am much better than what I was. The only down side I have experienced with Prozac is the complete absence of a sex drive. I have absolutely no desire. Other than that, it has been the best I have had so far. I think Paxil is relatively similar to Prozac."

Sabina replied: "You should use celexa, it is the best about it you can get information from here "

Question about Pristiq? I am 34 yrs old and have suffered from depression for as long as I can remember. I have been on all kinds of meds for it, Zoloft, Wellbutrin etc. Then in March of this year I started taking Pristiq. Finally I had found the medicine that worked for me! I had NEVER been more happy and content with my life. Then it slowly but surely stopped working. I am now back to the person I was, but with no sex drive and night sweats. Why did it stop working? Can anyone give me any info, or anything that might help?

Depression and Zoloft? For about 8-12 months now I haven't been feeling like myself. My parents finally came to me and said that they think Im suffering from depression. Im 25, and my life is great - but i cant see it that way. And this past year, has been a bad year for me with medical problems that turned out okay but they were stressful, surgery, laid off from my job, and a death in the family. So my parents wanted me to go to a therapist and my doctor that Ive seen since I was like 12 years old. I went into the therapist first and she had me do a questionnaire. I filled it out, and she scored it and said that I am suffering from a major depression... but I wanted to get my doctors opinion... I went to him like 2 days later... He asked me some questions and also had me get some blood work done to make sure that my depression wasn't from a underlying medical problem (blood work came back normal). So he prescribed me Pristiq, and I took it that night before bed, and it gave me severe side effects, ie wide awake, jumpy eyes, teeth grinding, and my pupils were huge! Kinda scary. So I called them and they then changed my prescription to a low dose Zoloft - 25 mg. once a day. Ive now been taking it for just over 3 weeks now. No bad side effects, little upset stomach and bad taste in my mouth and not a big appetite. But they have gone away. but I haven't seen any change in my moods or feelings. One big way I can describe the way I feel is nothing is comfortable... nothing makes me feel better, and I sleep most of the day, cry for no reasons, and thoughts that if I didn't wake up in the morning that i would be okay... Im supposed to go back to the doctor next week to see how its doing... I guess Im wondering if they can up my dosage of it to make it more effective? What dosage are you on? Is it working for you? I just wanna get through this... What symptoms did you have with depression? Thanks! I just want relief and to be back to myself...

betty s/nikoly replied: "i take zoloft myself.lots of times i feel like it doesn't help a bit but realistically it does work most of the time.i have many days of depression, but don't think anything will take care of whole problem.best bet is see neurologist.he or she will have suggestions as to how u can work out this problem.don't waste time trying to figure it out,k? PEACE! ."

Paul A replied: "I take generic Wellbutrin SR (150 mg) in the morning, and Lexapro (10 mg) with dinner, for depression and anxiety. I've been taking that for over two years, and it's working very well for me. The Wellbutrin SR seems to help me to be more alert and active - and wanting to do things - while the Lexapro makes me more mellow, and it helps me sleep better, too. They are relatively low doses of each medication, which keeps side effects at a minimum. I really can't tell I'm taking any medication at all. It takes from four to six weeks for SSRI's (such as Zoloft or Lexapro) to reach their full effective level, so after three weeks you still have some time left. Something else I've found is it makes a big difference when I take it. I've found (by experimenting) that the best time for me to take my Lexapro is with dinner. I sleep better at night, and I'm more awake during the day. That might work the same for Zoloft, since it is also an SSRI. Are you also getting counseling? That can be a huge help with depression - it's helped me more than I could ever imagine. Best of Luck :-)"

Riverrunsred replied: "25 mg is a good STARTING dose of Zoloft, but it is not actually a theraputic dose. Once they up the dose you should begin to feel better and better. I was on 100 mg and I felt great for years until I bulit up a tolerance to it and the doctor switched me to a different med. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon!"

Wondering about the new drug "Pristiq'...? I have had depression most of my life, I've been on Paxil, Zoloft, Prozac now the only thing that helps is Xanax but that is addicting. Does anyone know anything about this new drug? Thanks in advance!

Roxy5 replied: "Pristiq is a newer version of Effexor, I think. It's in a different class of anti-depressants than the three you mentioned, so it may be worth trying. Some people react to one class better than the others."

jerry replied: "Xanax is a benzodiazapene, which is used to treat the symptoms of anxiety. A previous answer follows: See:… I suggest that you view… about depression, then page b. Check out & and wean off, in accordance with and begin the core treatments immediately, and the herbal remedies, or OTHER supplements, like SAM-e, 5HTP, or L-phenylalanine, when below 50% weaning dosage. St. John's wort has anxiolytic, as well as antidepressant properties, so consider taking a recommended brand, along with a low dosage of 5HTP, and employing the core treatments shown for depression, and a relaxation method, and/or the EFT. Check out:… At least, give the above a trial period of 3 - 6 months, after weaning off, to see if they are sufficient. If not, (which is unlikely) medications will still be available, but maintain the core treatments as complementary ones, because they treat the cause, rather than mask symptoms. There are various kinds, and levels of depression, with at least 7 different causes. Different treatments may apply. Doctors and psychiatrists rely too much these days on medications, and are overly influenced by the sales reps of the drug companies, who profile them psychologically, and study their prescribing record, then offer rewards, freebies, courses, payments to lecture, etc. View:… and… The situation in the USA (where psychiatrists, and doctors are targeted by sales reps from the large pharmaceutical companies, and given freebies, and/or offered incentives/rewards to prescribe - see SEARCH BAR , about how drug company money has corrupted psychiatry, & ) differs considerably from that in Australia, where it has not yet progressed so far. The feedback that I have received here is that antidepressants work, if they do, by blunting the emotions. Many users describe it as "zombification", or emotional deadness. They produce side effects in around 25% - 30% of cases, and they can sometimes (rarely) include the possibility of permanent inorgasmia, (inability to achieve orgasm) or even the permanent loss of the ability for a male to achieve an erection, which is something they don't advertise. Although they may limit the lows, they also limit the excitement, and joys of life. That effect is far less pronounced with St. John's wort, and may be unnoticeable. Antidepressants have demonstrated increased rates of suicide, homicide, and aberrant behaviour, especially in people under the age of around 24 - 25. Note the warnings on the label/insert, or at The wort carries no such risks, and side effects are rarer, generally much milder, and never permanent., so why take an unnecessary risk? I suggest that such people immediately adopt the core treatments shown, and consider using the herbal remedies, or OTHER supplements. If antidepressants are offered, say "thank you very much" and pocket the prescription, but don't fill it until giving the natural & alternative treatments a trial period of at least 3, and preferably 6 months. Antidepressants will still be available, if required, (unlikely) but it's best to avoid the risks, and side effects. ~~~ I checked out drugs.com re Pristiq, and I suggest that you do, and as well."

Is anyone on Pristiq? My doctor just prescribed it to replace Zoloft, which makes me gain weight. If you're on it, how do you feel? Am I allowed to drink if I use it? Any side effects? I've never heard of this one before.

warm hearted guy replied: "I'm a pharmacist and I too have not heard of this drug. Have you tried Cymbalta? Many customers I've spoken to about their issues have been taking this medication. First of all, it does not have the sexual side-effects; secondly, for depression one of the 2 main ingredients is norepinephine the other a serotonin as a balancer. Is this doctor a psychiatrist or your General Practitioner? If he is a GP, it's time to find a psychiatrist who knows more popular medications out there. I can tell you this whatever that drug is, it's new and your insurance won't cover it. Maintain altitude!"

Miss Dior replied: "I switched to it 2 weeks ago from Lexapro. Lexapro made me gain 6 pounds in a month! When i switched to the pristiq I was sleepy the first week and I seemed to be more depressed. Then overnight, literally, I was a new woman! I feel the best I have in years! It is a GREAT medicine! You have a lack of appetite on it, so you will lose weight. I asked my doc about drinking on it and he said you can in moderation. However, i went out one night and drank a lot and it didnt bother me. Good luck! Pristiq is the new form of Effexor. It is better and doesnt have the side effects. Doesnt make sense that a phamacist hasnt heard of it."
