Can someone tell me what my chances are of having twins- age 39/clomid/mult pregnancies? I am currently 5 weeks pregnant. I am 39. White/Caucasian This is my 8th pregnancy. I was taking 50 mg Clomid- preg first cycle My HCG levels at 10 dpo were at 75 Can someone tell me what percentage/chance of having twins I have? Thank you

Doodlestuff replied: "You either will or you won't. That's the overall chance. Age 39 - twinning rate is doubled. Goes down again after age 40 for most women (not in my family though). Clomid - I read that 11% of women who use clomid become pregnant with twins. However, not all those twins make it to birth Multiple pregnancies - Doesn't really increase your chances much. Some women will never ovulate multiple times. My great grandmother had 16 kids - no twins. Still others start off with twins and one doesn't make it to 12 weeks (disappearing Twin syndrome). You are most likely to conceive twins in July and least likely to do so in January. This is thought to be due to the effect of the length of daylight on the secretion of Follicle Stimulating Hormone. For the general US public, the chances of having twins is 1 in 90 without use of fertility meds. 1 in 80 with the use of fertility drugs."

I concieved my son on 100mg of clomid in 2007 and now we are trying again :) I was wondering thou if there is an increased chance of a multiple pregnancy when you get pregnant off of clomid the second time? I know in general the likely hood of twins is 5%, but I think I remember hearing somewhere that if you get pregnant off of it again it jumps to like a, 12% chance. Any stories of one baby birth, then multiples the next time, both pregnancies the result of clomid? I would love to know! Thnks!

How soon can i get symtoms for a twin pregnancy? I have been diagnosed with pcos since august i have been on metformin got my period on 2nd september and i then started clomid on cd2- cd6 and well contined with the metformin and folic acid btw we have been ttc for quite some time now i also had a couple of miscarriages but i went to my doctor on 13th september i had 4 mature eggs biggest one being 23mm, 22mm,21mm and 20mm and i think it shud be like 18mm in order to ovulate right but my symtoms are crazy, i have very sore, tender breasts, frequent urination, feeling tired, cramps and my dh have been feeling sick and only wanting to sleep all day! Is it to early for these signs and symtomps i know it cant be period symtoms cause my period it not due until like the 30th September. anyone with this kind of experience. Is it that i am pregnant and with multiples? or twins? Please help me and i know it too soon to test! I am only on cd18 right now and i have been getting these symtoms a coule of days now!

HooKooDooKu replied: "There will be no way of knowing if you have twins or not until you can get an ultrasound to "see" how many gestational sacs there are. That usually can not be done until you are between 5 weeks and 6 weeks pregnant. Prior to the ultra-sound, the only other information you can obtain that MIGHT provide a clue would be hcg levels, but even that will not be able to say if you are having twins or not. The reason is that hcg levels vary so widely that expected levels of hcg for twins v. singletons greatly over-lap. As for pregnancy symptoms in general, every single symptom that women say is an indication of early pregnancy are also symptoms of pending AF, illness, and a host of intestinal irregularities... with one exception... the ability to make two lines appear on a pee stick."

Jen replied: "often times women will get their positive tests quicker with twins because there are two little beans in there making hcg instead of one. if you dont get a positive test 12, 14dpo don't be discouraged. last time it was a day or two after af was due before I got mine. EDIT- oh yeah, clomid can give us the same symptoms as early pregnancy too, nice touch, eh' good luck, i'm on clomid and praying for one, or two, too!"

finally! replied: "I went through IVF and I cheated and took a hpt the day before my blood test. It turned positive before I could finish peeing, that was 11 days after my transfer and exactly 14 days after the egg retrieval. I started feeling the same things about a 8 days after my transfer. My 1st u/s showed that there were 2 sacs! but the doc only found 1 heartbeat so I won't know until next week if there's 2. So you could definitely have twins, but everyones symptoms are different so it's really hard to tell. Did you get a trigger shot? If you test too early you can get a false positive from that. It takes around 8 days to leave your system. I know it's hard, but I would wait until the 25th to test just to make sure. (I would probably test every other day until then,but I'm crazy so!) That's 5 days before your period starts so a first response should pick it up. But if it comes out negative don't get discouraged, it may be too early! Good luck and lots of baby dust to you!"

do twin pregnancies take the same time to implant as single pregnancies? I'm on clomid. ovulated 2-3 eggs so know there is a small chance of twins if I get pregnant. just wondering if it takes longer for test to work if I was lucky to get pregnant with twins. although one healthy one would be just as great and wished for

jacquishields replied: "hi there, no it wouldnt take longer as they woukld implant same time hun. the only thing would be the chance of an earlier result, as there would be double the hormoan levels. so if 2 or more did take, they would all give off the same, hence 2 or 3 more times the level. I found out on day 10, I got faint line, that was 10 days after ivf had happened, that was counting day of transfer hun xx good luck xx"

Different fertility drugs apart from Clomid? Hi I am 41 and TTC Baby #2.. today is my 28 day and my HPT is negative..This month I took clomid 50 mg for 3-7 days and right now I am on prometrium 100 mg.. The use of clomid after three previous pregnancy's.? Ok my doctor just put me on clomid after I have been ttc for over a year. I have three other children which I never had many problems ttc them for two of them was a surprised blessing. Turned out that I developed cysts and another small problem. The doctor explained that because I was passing clots and had such irreguler cycles that I probity was not ovulating. What I was wondering is if there is any other woman that has had a smilier problem where they had problems after other pregnancy and was put on clomid and conceived. If so how long into it and if they had twins?

¨°º¤ø„¸ COOPS ¸„ø¤º°¨ replied: "i heard ovarian drilling is very good, my SIL had twins by IVF, did the drilling after that... she said it takes a bit time for it to start working, she had another kid by IVF (she has PCO and her hubby had low motility) but the next kid she got just by taking metformin and the last one she didn't take anything at all! idk if metformin and clomid together is a problem, my doctor has me on metformin the whole pregnancy because it is supposed to protect against miscarriage. they say you can have twins, but i asked everyone who has them and they love it... plus lots of people don't have twins. i never got pregnant on clomid, but that doesn't mean that you won't either. it was kinda weird because i responded well enough, one cycle i had 5 follicles! i had to take the FSH shots and many more pills to prevent mc... good luck baby dust!"

dane d replied: "Hi there! Its not true that the combo causes miscarriages, the miscarriage rate is exactly the same as that in fertile women, not taking the meds. Ive had success conceiving on metformin last year, but unfortunately didnt stay on it and had a m/c. If I only knew! My infertility specialist told me that you have a 5% chance of having twins on Clomid, so I wouldn't worry too much about that. I been on Metformin and Clomid and I did get pregnant on my 2nd cycle, but I miscarried due to low numbers. My second time I got pregnant was with Injectables and you have a 20% chance of twins. can one get a positive pregnancy test earlier with twins or the same time post ovulation as a single pregnancy? ? I ovulated two eggs this month due to clomid. it was seen on ultrasound. just wondering if i have to wait the same amount of time for a test to come positive if pregnant as if it was a single pregnancy?

Saz replied: "If you are indeed pregnant with twins you should have double the normal HCG amount so it should come up sooner, or darker. However I would hesitate to test early because if it is still too early you might feel disappointed for nothing. I say still wait for as long as you can before testing. Good luck!"

Sophies mummy and having a boy! replied: "hCG levels are higher amongst twin pregnancies but you probably won't get a positive any earlier as they will not implant any earlier. Bearing in mind tests are sensitive from 25miu it doesn't really matter if they're detecting a singleton or twin pregnancy, you still probably won't get a positive until about 10DPO at earliest as this is when hCG is beginning to be produced. So whilst the test may detect higher levels when it does, it won't be any earlier than in a singleton pregnancy. Good luck xx"

SAlix replied: "You wont get a positive test any earlier than with standard single pregnancy. Please Please dont assume (or get your hopes up) that because of Clomid a positive will mean twins, you might only get one fertilisation/implantation even with two eggs released. Any baby that is wanted is a blessing. Take a deep breath and let things tak their course."

You should have double hormones but it doesn't necessarily mean that you will test positive sooner. I know it's tempting but don't do it before time! Julixa"

Can a doctor find out very soon in pregnancy if we are having twins? my wife has been taking clomid to get pregnant. We just found out she was pregnant. She will be calling the doc first thing tomorrow. Can the doc see very soon in pregnancy if we are having more then one child. We have been very crazy thinking about the posibilities of more then one child. We have heard scary stories of multible births with clomid!
