Find out more about
Burry Port here!
Two elderly Revo 'Dalek' 90W SOX lanterns on telegraph pole brackets
in Burry Port. These are identical to the fittings in Pembrey,
suggesting they were installed at the same time. In this photo
the rust on the control box as well as the bracket is clearly
visible.
SOX lighting was installed in Burry Port sometime before 1969,
as this photo
illustrates! So these lanterns are at least 35 years old. The
columns and lanterns in Station Road (in the photo link) have
been replaced by SON lighting.
Update: the remaining Daleks were replaced by less gear MA90s
in December 2005 right through the whole of Kidwelly and Burry
Port.

This column is unique
as far as I am aware! One of very few (I think there may only
be one other) Revo 'Dalek' lanterns mounted on columns rather
than telegraph pole brackets in the area, this column is even
more unique as it appears that the lantern facing the main road
is mounted on a bracket with the control box at the top. The lantern
actually attached to the column, facing the camera, is a modern
Philips MA90 with gear. I imagine that, when this was installed,
this also carried a similar 'Dalek' lantern.
This column is at the junction between the A484 and Church Road
in Burry Port.
Update: this lantern was replaced in December 2005 with a less
gear MA90.

The same lantern
as in the above photo from the other direction. In the foreground,
a standard Burry Port telegraph pole bracket installation with
a 1970s Eleco GR100 replacement.

.Another example
of a telegraph pole bracket fitting, with Revo 'Dalek' 90W lantern.
Update:
this lantern was replaced in December 2005 with a less gear
MA90.

A close up of a side
road lantern in Burry Port. This is a Revo 'Dalek' 35W SOX lantern.
Originally I believed it to be 55W, but was mistaken because of
the large bowl (thanks once again to Jon Salmon).

Another side road
lantern in Burry Port. This could be a 1950's GEC Z8430 lantern,
but once again I could be wrong - let me know if you can identify
it!

This lantern appears
at a junction off the main road in Burry Port. I think it might
be an elderly version of the GEC Z9454 lantern, where the bowl
has gone cloudy with age.

From the old to the new - a new
installation of Thorn Triumph 1 SON lanterns was put up in 2005
to light a new residential estate in Burry Port.

Back to the old again - the Daleks
may have gone but a gear-in-head REVO Lucidor 'B' lantern is still
in use off the main road in a residential estate.
