I had very high expectations (something I usually try to avoid because you end up disappointed 90% of the time) for this movie and I wasn't disappointed at all! It's awesome! I've seen over 1000 horror movies and Paranormal Activity is definitely one of the best I've seen (top 50)! It's not one of the best I've seen only because it's one of the scariest, it's also one of the most realistic and it's the movie I've always dreamed of! I've always wanted someone to make a realistic movie like The Blair Witch Project about a family or a couple filming in their house to catch ghosts and this movie has everything that I wanted! It's very suspenseful and it has some truly effective scenes! A lot of people say that it's boring and I really don't get it! It's WAY too suspenseful to be boring! I've been trying to understand why the people that thought that it was boring went to see it since it was released! Why does someone who get bored easily go see a movie about a couple filming in their house? While we're at it, why does someone expect to be scared in a theater full of people? The fact that there are idiotc teens that can't stop talking and laughing 90% of the time doesn't help. Personally, I can't imagine finding a movie scary with 30 persons around me. I thought the movie was scary (compared to most movies), but I watched it alone in the dark with an headset. The fact that I believe (or want to) in ghosts helped as well. Actually, I can't imagine someone who doesn't believe in ghosts finding a ghost movie scary. What makes ghost movies scary is the fact that maybe ghosts exist. Anyway, the first few minutes of the movie is the only time I didn't feel uneasy! The atmosphere was simply creepy! Hell, even a few parts with nothing but the couple talking were creepy! I guess it was the expectation that something really bad was going to happen. Anyway, when the movie was about to end I felt bad because I really didn't want it to end and any movie that makes me feel this way deserves 5 stars. I Can't wait for the DVD. PS: All of the people who call the people who like this movie sheeps are immature idiots. Just because you think a movie is bad doesn't mean that those who think it's good are sheeps or wrong or whatever stupid *beep* bigots love to come up with.

Succeeds in its modest goals of building tension slowly and generating a handful of legitimate scares. A few people in the audience were laughing during the first half of the film. No one was laughing during the long walk out of the theater.

First of all, if you are looking for a real scary movie, don't look for paranormal activity. There are only two genuinely scary parts, and one is shown on previews. The movie is only scary to those who don't watch scary movies. A door slam scared the crap out of people in the TV ads for the DVD. It's not scary, it's more like well-written suspense. The movie delivers enough depth to be a cut above other "scary" films, and I? have to say the acting is pretty good. Still, if you're looking for a real scare, look elsewhere.

This movie did a good job of building suspense in you, it had it's comical moments. Overall, it was alright - nothing that stuck with me for longer than 4 to 5 days.

Overrated. not scary at all, I wish they had gone all the way with the idea instead of just toying around with a few minor thrills.

I would have given this movie a low rating it wasn't for the fact that I couldn't sleep after watching it. I mean if it doesn't scare you anyway than why call it a horror movie? The creepy late night bedroom ambience of the film is easliy transferrable to your own bedroom if you have a vivid imagination. A film like this is a good catalyst to creep yourself out late at night. It's not so much the movie I guess, but just how it can spark your morbid imagination. Less is more in this film. The problem with these fakely authentic films is that I always doubt the characters would continue filming everything. After awhile, in real-life, a real person would give up filming and get the hell out of there I think! This makes it hard to suspend your disbelief and suspension of disbelief is key in these type of films.

The low budget only adds to the frighteningly realistic feel this movie has. A genuinely scary movie which does a great job of slowly building the tension, and plays well on the fears of anyone who has even the slightest thought that there may be a spirit-world.

I love scary moves, this one had a few little shake in your seat events, they were far and few in between, they took a long to finally show up in the movie, very slow, should have gone to my second choice of movies. not enough action.

It is absolutely the worst possible choice for a horror flick right now. The ending was scary, but that's it. Literally, the action was all in the trailer. If you MUST see it, then at least go late into the movie, like an hour late. Then you wont have to go through the slow, slow, agonizingly boring buildup. in groups, this movie is nothing but funny, and it's incredibly predictable thanks to a weird airplane-in-the-distance sound that comes before anything "paranormal" happens. It might be a slightly good movie if u go with just a girlfriend, but no other friends, maybe she'll make it a passable experience.

The movie has some good creepy moments, and the setup works reasonably well. But I don't understand how more people weren't completely disappointed by that ending. It almost totally ruins the entire film. I'd be more specific, but I don't want to put out a spoiler. Suffice it to say that I wish I'd left the theater a few minutes before it ended.

Wholesome young adults in sunny San Diego trying to cook up a scarey movie--the non=Blair witch project.no spooky woods, or empty houses with basements, or even the remote hint that this might be related to some ephemeral true thing. Should have been shot in a remote New England town.and why, pray tell, didn't these adorable young 'uns just leave?

To be honest, I liked this film and I found it quite entertaining. But really, the only value I got from it is that I found it hilariously funny. As a horror movie, it really, really fails. It is just not scary. At all. I laughed most of the way through, and I'm easily scared by films.

Like legendary producer Val Lewton in the '40s, director Oren Peli, who shot "Paranormal" in seven days in his own home, understands that what's most frightening is what you don't see but merely suggested.

By the time you get to the "scary parts," you're impatient, exhausted, frustrated and laughing at yourself for believing all the effing hype.

Terrible!!! Out of the 100 minutes about 15-20 minutes actually give you a slight tingle. 30 seconds freaks you out. Its one of those movies that you could go to with your girlfriend to get her to snuggle up. Then you make out for the rest of the film.

I would've like the movie even more if it were just the bedroom camera scenes the whole time. Still one of the better movies of the year. Oh and I read the original ending, its way better.
