2003 holiday to Hotel Vicky, Niederau, Austria

2003 holiday to Hotel Vicky page 2

Right from the start, it was clear that we were going to like our stay here. Niederau seemed to be just the sort of place we like... very quiet and a bit remote, and the the Hotel staff (All English) were all friendly

We had planned that this was going to be our base for a walking holiday, but we also decided to book up for 2 of the bus tours. It was possible to go out by bus every day, but we just chose to go on 2 - Kriml Falls and to Grossglockner mountain

This page shows some pictures from both of those bus trips

First , Kriml Falls

The pics above show the view down from near halfway up, the wiew from the bottom and the view up to the cafe at the halfway point.
Our bus trip did not give enough time to reach the top of the falls, though it is quite a climb even to halfway. This is a spectacular natural display and , as with the Grossglockner trip, athough it is a long way, it is worthwhile.

Now Grossglockner mountain

These pictures show the view down onto the glacier, the view on the glacier with the main peak on the left, and the view back up from the glacier.
The views on the high alpine road up the mountain, with over 30 hairpin bends are great. It is important to go to the glacier first (if you want to walk on it) as you may not have enough time to do anything else. It came as quite a surprise to us, how hard it was to make the journey back up from the glacier. The air really is quite thin up there.
