“I was lonely. I was just going to have one drink. I know that I can never just have one, and I didn t. I barely remember what happened. I m lucky that I wasn t hurt too badly and that I didn t kill someone else. My new $35,000 Saab is gone and I had to spend the night in jail. I m so ashamed. This is the last time. I m done with drinking. You know the worst part? I want a drink right now! I wish I took your advice, and started the Prometa treatments.”
This was Susan s story. Susan is a 45-year old scientist whose family is riddled with alcoholism and opiate addiction. She refused to join AA because it was “too public and too religious”.
I started seeing her a year ago when her husband brought her into the clinic. She had been drinking up to 2 bottles of wine per day for over a year and it had finally caught up with her. She developed severe abdominal pain, but even that didn t stop her. I put her in the hospital for a couple of days to “dry her out”. We suggested the Prometa protocol for alcohol addictions, but Susan was hesitant because it was expensive and new.
Instead she entered into therapy with under my medical supervision. We used antidepressants, along with Campral and Vivitrol, two -FDA approved, efficacious medications for alcoholism. We also entered her into the Intense Outpatient Treatment Program (IOT).
Susan tried very hard. She knew it was important. But she had to deal with severe cravings almost every day. Her drinking drastically decreased. Although she did have an occasional binge. Her work performance improved and her marriage got better.
I was overall pleased with her progress. But I had some underlying anxieties that her physical cravings might take over. And, that is exactly what happened.
Within days of her last incident we started three IV Prometa treatments, along with other medications that comprise the protocol. By the third day Susan s head was clear and she told us that the cravings were gone. It is now about six weeks since the treatment and Susan still has “zero cravings”.
I know you re thinking this remarkable change must be a fluke. I d think that too if I hadn t seen the same reaction in almost all of the patients that I have treated with Prometa. In fact, going over my data for the past 18 months I have close to an 80% success rate for my Prometa and buprenorphine patients.
Addiction is a Brain Disease
The choice to use drugs sets in motion a cascade of events that lead to long lasting and even permanent neural damage. Society used to view drug and alcohol addictions, as a social failing that can only be conquered by strong will and faith. This model was developed in the early 20th century, a time when there was only rudimentary insight into the workings of the brain and also a time when there was no methamphetamine epidemic.
Medicine has come a long way since those days, but the treatment of substance abuse is still based on twelve step programs and other social interventions. This is important, but it s not the only thing that works.
Alcohol and drug addiction is a brain disease. And diseases are treated with medicine. Buprenorphine and Prometa are revolutionizing the treatments of the most important drug addictions: opiates, alcohol, cocaine, and methamphetamine.
Buprenorphine for Opiate Addiction
Buprenorphine works by stimulating the opiate Mu receptors in the brain in a similar way to opiates themselves. Stimulation of these receptors produces pain relief and relaxation. With drugs such as hydrocodone (Vicodin and Norco), oxycodone (Oxycontin), morphine, and heroin, these effects rise steadily as the dose increases. Increasing doses lead to desensitization of the brain and the physical changes of drug addiction. Too much drug can result in overdose and death.
Buprenorphine only partially stimulates the Mu receptor, enough to eliminate drug cravings. However, it s not enough to desensitize the brain. And, since it s very long acting, the patient only has to use it once or twice daily.
Buprenorphine also blocks another opiate receptor, the kappa receptor, which is the cause of many withdrawal symptoms. This results in the elimination of cravings and an increased ability to slowly decrease the dose. Now patients can once again begin living normal lives.
Prometa Protocol for Cocaine, Methamphetamine, and Alcohol Addiction
Before Prometa there was no effective treatment for methamphetamine, cocaine, and alcohol cravings. There is simply nothing else that works. Without this treatment, patients feel tired, irritable, and depressed indefinitely. No wonder that almost all addicts eventually relapse.
Patients using Prometa protocol feel much better almost immediately. They almost all say that they think clearer. Even more importantly, their cravings disappear. In fact, one study of 50 methamphetamine addicts showed that almost 90 percent got significant positive effects. In my practice I see the same results. The patient stories are amazing.
And, the beauty of this treatment is that it is completed over one to 3 weeks with lasting results.
Medical Breakthrough Barriers
These treatments are not cure alls. They will only be fully successful when used as part of a comprehensive program.
There are barriers to getting these treatments to the people who need them: Physicians must have a special federal waiver to prescribe Buprenorphine. Physicians prescribing Buprenorphine can treat no more than 100 patients. Prometa is only available at licensed centers and it is very expensive. Insurance does not cover Prometa yet, pending completion of university based double blind studies. The major obstacle, however, is the attitude of society and unfortunately, many members of the addiction treatment community towards this problem. One thing is clear. Unless we treat physical cravings, we will never be able to get a handle on drug and alcohol addiction.

Question: If I suffers from cold sores (herpes simplex 1) but not from genital herpes (herpes simplex 2), is it possible for me to pass on the virus to my partner during oral sex; even if I am cold-sore free at the time?Answer: Unfortunately, yes, even though the chances are slim, either herpes virus Herpes Simplex Type 1 (HSV-1) or Herpes Simplex Type 2 (HSV-2), can infect the mouth or genitals and can be transferred from one partner to another even if the infected partner is asymptomatic at the time.Since there are few faster ways to ruin a relationship than when one partner give the other herpes, lets clear-up some more herpes misinformation that could save you from giving or receiving the gift that keeps on giving. You can t tell if someone has herpes by the way they look, live or act. Eighty million Americans have herpes that s at least one in six adults, including that cute date who forgot to bring condoms.Intercourse is not the only way herpes is spread. Herpes is spread from skin to skin contact. That means you can get herpes (simplex 1 or simplex 2) from kissing, performing or receiving oral sex, touch an infected area with any part of your bodySome can have herpes and not even know it. Herpes symptoms usually develop within two to 20 days after contact with the virus, however it could take longer and in some cases (especially women) the newly infected person may remain asymptomatic but still be able to pass on the virus to others.Herpes can be spread between outbreaks, even when no signs or symptoms are present. It can also be spread by asymptomatic people who don t even know they are infected. You can get herpes in your eyes, on your fingers and on other parts of the body by touching an outbreak. Soap and water will kill the virus on the surface of your skin, however, once you are infected, soap and water will not get rid off herpes sores and herpes outbreaks.Aside from abstinence, there is no sure fire way to protect yourself from contracting herpes during intimacy with an infected partner. Next to abstinence, using latex condoms is the most recommended safeguard against contracting herpes, but it is not 100% effective. If you suspect you might have some form of the herpes virus or if you have a partner that has herpes, please see your local health care provider for a diagnosis and medical advise. One of the things that can truly devastate the life of a woman is female hair loss. That is no joke and since women value their crowning glory, they are bound to do everything just to keep a healthy and beautiful hair.
Hair loss among men is an ordinary story but in case you don t know, female hair loss is also a widespread problem. However, women are not as vocal as men in expressing their problem concerning hair loss.
In order to prevent hair loss, you must be able to understand its causes. Oftentimes, hair loss in women is attributed to many things. Try to observe your hair and check if it s getting thin or maybe you re losing hair in some spots of the scalp. Once you perceive that something s wrong with your hair, consult a doctor, dermatologist, or a hair specialist.
The most common cause of female hair loss is the disturbance of hormones in the body. Every time your body stops or slows down, the hormone production undergoes some changes and it can affect the growth of your hair.
Here are some of the causes of hair loss among women:
1. Menopause
Menopause is part of growing old and when a woman enters this period, the hormone production slows down. Since the level of hormones are reduced, about 2/3 women on their post-menopausal stage often find themselves having bald spots. The best treatment preferred by most women is the hormone replacement therapy.
Before the menopausal stage, high levels of estrogen are produced inside a woman s body. Aside from estrogen, the body also produces testosterone. The estrogen serves as a barrier that protects the testosterone hormones from being converted. But since menopause can t be stopped as it is a natural occurrence, estrogen production is slowed down until it finally stops. Testosterone will then combine with bodily enzymes and alpha reductase. The result is the production of DHT which is said to be primarily responsible for hair loss.
2. Hysterectomy
Even if a woman undergoes hysterectomy, the production of hormones is still affected and the woman will experience the symptoms associated with menopause. But if you choose the full hysterectomy, there is a great chance that you will suffer from hair loss.
3. Pregnancy
When a woman is pregnant, a lot of bodily changes take place. You will eventually notice that your hair is falling or thinning but there have also been ironical cases wherein the individual s hair thickens. Those that have straight hair may suddenly find their hair with curls and vice versa. You must see to it that you are getting all the needed nutrients; that is the reason why you need to take vitamins when pregnant.
Aside from menopause, hysterectomy, and pregnancy, hair loss can also be caused by genetics. Pattern baldness has a lot to do with this and it will run in the family. Another factor that contributes to hair loss is your diet. You must eat the right kinds of food in their proper amounts to keep your body and hair healthy. Frequent hair styling can also lead to hair loss. Try to minimize hair coloring, highlighting, or bleaching.
There is a wide range of female hair loss products offered in the market. Ask your doctor which ones you can use. Don t take hair loss problem lightly; act on it now. Dogs, like humans, also experience sleepless nights for some reasons that are apparently found in our homes. In this regard, it is very important that dog owners have a keen sense of observation when it comes to a dog s sleeping disorder. Although this may seem like a very ambitious task, a careful attention paid on a dog s well-exhibited difficulties in sleeping is proven beneficial both to the dog and its owner.
However, as with all the other problems concerning the behavior and habits of a dog, the solution to the problem does not take effect after a mere 24 hours. This requires practice and constant monitoring of the dog s reaction to the drills. But, the task can be actually made simple if dog owners would take the full responsibility in performing the following:
Observe and take a careful note on any change that might have triggered the occurrence of modification in your dog s sleeping habits. Your dog may be reacting to several situations like a sudden change in its crate or lounge, or in your furniture set-up, a stressful incident, or a house party. Keep in mind that the smallest change in its environment will cause some sort of a disturbance in your dog s schema of daily events, which will lead to difficulty in sleeping. Identify what is the cause and do something about it, like re-arranging the furniture to their original plan that your dog has been accustomed to, or putting the dog back in the crate where it is used to take a rest.
Give the dog a well-balanced diet. The diet depends on your dog s age. This usually requires more calorie intake for young dogs. Such distribution gives puppies the essential nutrients they need for their growth. On the other hand, older dogs require just the right amount of calories that will support their daily activities.
For the most part, the diet is effective if you always let your dog eat on time, if not earlier than its bedtime. This is particularly important as dogs are energetic after meals. Feeding your dog a short moment before it should actually sleep will most likely give it the energy to move around, bark, and whine while the neighborhood is asleep.
Provide supplements that will help your dog relax. Calming products (which are usually taken orally) will do the magic as these will provide relief from restlessness, nervousness, fear, and aggression, which will yield to a sound slumber for both of you.
Have your dog undergo daily exercise. Generally, your dog should have at least 40 minutes of walking, running, and other exercise regimen everyday. If your dog has too much stored energy, it is more likely to be wriggly at night, just when you are having a beautiful dream. Helping your dog to tire itself before bed time will be ideal, as it will be drained of any excess energy, which can spell sleep disruptions to both of you.
Set a definite sleeping time. Help your dog practice a definite sleeping time. Ideally, you should pattern your dog s bedtime to yours.
Keep your pet s sleeping area clean and comfortable. See to it that your dog doesn t sleep on a damp, cold area, as it will be a major cause of restlessness. Give your pet comfort items like blanket or pillow. Remember that your main goal is to provide total comfort and security for your dog. Dog beds and dog crates will do the trick.

While there is no magic way to stop aging, there are steps that will help slow down the aging process. Aging is a natural part of life and aging skin basically comes from the wear and tear the skin cells face on a daily basis. One way to stop aging it to use a good skincare routine. No product on the market will stop your skin from aging. On the other hand, some products are able to help repair your skin. Dermabrasion kits are one example of a treatment to help stop aging. These treatments will slough off old cells and leave fresh, new skin in its place.
Causes of Aging Skin
Research shows that there are, in fact, two distinct types of aging. Aging caused by the genes we inherit is called intrinsic (internal) aging. The other type of aging is known as extrinsic (external) aging and is caused by environmental factors, such as exposure to the sun s rays.
Though other skin care experts have identified free radicals and cellular inflammation as key triggers to the breakdown and aging of healthy skin, there is a way to prevent these culprits from developing in the first place-rather than just treating the unwelcome symptoms they ve caused.
Based on the scientifically groundbreaking premise that cells-and consequently skin-function best when the pH level of the body is at its proper level by shifting the body s ratio of acids to alkalines, you can reverse skin cell aging to experience younger-looking skin and optimal vitality.
How Free Radicals Age You
Free radicals can form in each and every cell in your body. They feed off healthy cells and in doing so, they create more and more free radicals. As more and more free radicals are created, more and more damage is caused to your healthy cells. Free radicals can also attach and feed of healthy DNA components in your cells and they can do this many thousands of times each and every day. Over a period of time, you can see how damaging and how aging this continual process of feeding off cells to create more free radicals can be.
To shift this ratio, dermatologist and National Institutes of Health fellow Dr. Jeannette Graf recommends the following tips:
Eat more alkalinizing foods. Most people tend to eat three acidic-building foods (such as sugar, refined carbs, meat and dairy) for every one alkalinizing food (dark-green leafy vegetables, garlic, onions, olive oil, lemon, fruit, nuts and seeds, and whole grains)-the reverse of the ideal ratio.
Take quality calcium-mineral supplements.
Add probiotic supplements (good bacteria in a bottle).
Diet and Health
* adequate fluid intake (6 to 8 glasses of water per day) is essential for hydrating skin, flushing out toxins from the body, and for anti-aging prevention * a diet with plenty of whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, use of healthy oils such as olive oil or flax seed oil, and reduction of animal fats (saturated fats) helps protect the skin against oxidative stress * exercising regularly helps promote capillary functioning, brings oxygen to the skin which is important for healthy skin, and flushes out body toxins
Summary:
If you value your youthful looks and want to avoid wrinkling, protect yourself from the sun by putting on a sunscreen each morning of SPF 15 or higher. This is especially important if you are fair-skinned.
Cosmetics are a safe way to temporarily lubricate your skin and conceal blemishes and imperfections. Keep your cosmetic routine simple, and stick to a few products that agree with your skin. Don t get involved in elaborate routines with cleansers, astringents, “deep cleansing,” night creams, skin tighteners, etc. Keep in mind that cosmetics only conceal, they don t heal.
Start a skin rejuvenation regimen of tretinoin and alpha hydroxyacid to reverse some of the changes of aging and to slow down the aging process. Read out Makeup. Also check out for pregnancy and rosacea

Acne vulgaris is commonly known as pimples. Acne vulgaris is an inflammatory disease. Acne affects human body at the beginning of puberty. The intensity of the disease generally lowers down after crossing teenage. The disease equally affects both men and women. Face and neck are those part of the body where acne prominently can occur however, it can also affects chest, back, arms and upper parts of legs. The disease is associated with hair follicles and sebaceous glands. People of western countries are most vulnerable to this problem as imbalance in gene also can be a cause of acne.
At reaching puberty sebaceous glands secrete excessive oil which blocks hair follicles. This is the heaven for the skin bacteria Propionibacterium acne. These bacteria rapidly increase their strength by multiple cell divisions in these oil accumulated pores. This forms cyst beneath the skin; the skin above these cyst becomes bulged and deformed. Acne leaves permanent scars on the skin whenever better treatment is not done for this.
Unbalancing in the level of those hormones which are secreted to attain puberty is supposed to be the prime factor causing acne. There are many other factors which are supposed to affect occurrence of acne. Most prominent causes are stress, irregular menstrual cycles, allergies, use of steroids, accumulation of dead skin, and side effects of iodine, chlorine, bromine, lithium based medication.
Acne is not initiated or stimulated by the consumption of chocolate, fried food and sugar rich diet. Though excess iodine can cause acne but its incorporation with sea food is not established. Myth stating masturbation increases impact of acne has no scientific ground.
The quest for searching a better treatment for acne is going on for millenniums. Hot water treatment, mineral water treatment, and sulphur treatment, were the common ways by which people tried to cure acne. Only in early twentieth century, efforts were made to cure acne with the help of antibiotic like benzoyl peroxide. Since then many development in medical treatment of acne have been noticed. Supplementing diet with vitamin A pills, laser treatment and light therapy are most prominent and relatively advanced techniques for acne treatment.
The new techniques for curing acne are expensive; it is not possible for everyone to afford the cost of laser and light therapy. Doctors still prescribe benzoyl peroxide based topical cream to be applied on acne affected area. Benzoyl peroxide dissolves dead skin and opens pores of skin. Creams containing Azeliac acid are also beneficial for the acne treatment. Oral antibiotic like tetracycline and doxycycline can also accompany topical creams for effective acne treatment. Acne in female is generally treated with hormone therapy. These hormonal pills are alike contraceptive pill containing progestogen which acts against acne causing testosterone. Acne generally takes two to three month to flatten down after starting treatment for it.
Medication for acne must be taken on doctor s prescription as these medicines may have some side effects.
