The Christian believes in the fatherhood of God, that intimate, loving, caring fellowship whcih goes so much further than paternity can ever go... Nothing shows so well the intimate fellowship of the Christian with God [than calling Him Abba or Daddy]. Here is no God transcendant in infinite might and majesty, unapproachable, different and separate; here is no God who is an abstraction or a philosophic idea, or a grudging or a passionless deity. Here is a God who is as near to us a father is to a little child. From William Barclay, The Apostles' Creed. 1998. Arthur James Ltd. pps 26 and 31 |
