Dr
Djamel Boussaa is currently an Assistant Lecturer at the Department
of Architecture, UAE University. After graduating with a Bachelor of Architecture
from the University of Algiers, Algeria (1984), he was awarded a post-graduate
scholarship to pursue studies in the United Kingdom. He obtained his Master
of Philosophy in Architecture from the Institute of Advanced Architectural
Studies, University of York (1987). After practicing as an architect for
one year in London he returned to Algeria in 1988.
He was appointed as an Assistant Professor of architecture at the Institute of Architecture, University of Blida and taught for 8 years. In addition he has been Assistant Director for Graduate Studies for two years (1989-91), and Assistant Director for Research and Postgraduate-Studies (1991-93). He joined the UAE University, Department of Architecture in September 1996. Currently, in addition to teaching, his main area of research includes issues related to the conservation and development of urban heritage in the Gulf and the UAE. Dr Djamel Boussaa has presented papers
at the many international and regional conferences including: the IAPS
16th Conference, METROPOLIS 21st century: which Perspectives?, Cities,
Social Life and Sustainable Development, the 3rd Sharjah Urban Plan Symposium,
the 2nd Arab Gulf Conference on Folklore and Oral History, the 2nd Conference
on Sustainability in Desert Regions.
