Dr Ong gained several years of professional experience in investment management and valuation before pursuing an academic career at NUS. 

Dr Ong has published over 30 papers in internationally refereed journals such as Journal of Property Finance, Journal of Property Valuation and Investment (both have merged as Journal of Property Investment and Finance), Journal of Property Research, Journal of Real Estate Portfolio Management, Urban Studies, Real Estate Finance and Property Management. He has presented more than 25 conference papers in the American Real Estate and Urban Economics Association (AREUEA), International AREUEA, European Real Estate Society, International Symposium in Forecasting, Financial Econometrics and Financial Management Association conferences. His research interests include real estate securitization, real options, game theoretic issues in real estate, market microstructure, time series and micro-econometric analysis of financial and real estate securities.

Dr Ong is an editorial board member of the Journal of Property Investment and Finance and The Real Estate Times. He has also refereed for Journal of Real Estate Research, Journal of Real Estate Portfolio Management, Urban Studies, Journal of Business Statistics, Financial Management, International Real Estate Review, Journal of Corporate Real Estate, Journal of Real Estate and Construction and Accounting and Business Review.
