Chris Elliott

Hayes,Tasmania, Australia

Lived all my early years,1949-1968,in Sutton, and started following U's when they played Wimbledon in amateur cup-final. Went all over the place watching them, and used to sit in the little wooden stand at home games, cheering them on. Left England for Perth, West Australia in 1975,on to Tassie in 1990.Have just seen John Moody's item, shall have to try and contact him.Pity they didn't make it in the big league a couple of years ago, still, maybe again soon. Best of luck this coming season.Cheers, Chris.

Tony Richardson

Dursley, Gloucestershire

Watched all the home games as a lad, quite a lot of the aways as well. Dario Gradi was my PE teacher at school and the Sutton Team were heroes to us. Since then and some 35 years on I remain committed to checking the scores, and very occasionally taking in a game. Watched a couple at Forest Green in the Conference in recent years and a dire game at Bath. Have managed to pass on the die-hard Sutton supporter gene to my 16 year old son; not bad for a Gloucestershire lad.

Among the many high points, are getting through to the FA Amateur cup final twice, even though we lost both, seeing the U's beating Wimbledon 5-0 at Plough Lane, and most particularly, defeating Hillingdon 4-1 at GGL in a third round FA Cup replay (that Game). That was probably one of the great moments of my Sutton watching days. The 4th round against Leeds was memorable, but not for the result!

Coventry was great, but I was out of the area by then so watched from afar. Like all true SUFC fans, always expect the best, often have to settle for something else, but that's football.

When I was 8 my uncle took me along to see Sutton play (I can't remember who against) and he bought me a Sutton Scarf. When we won the Ryman league I started looking out for there results in the papers. When we were in the conference I started going to the games and have gone to as many games as possible since. My best memory was the semi-final of the FA Umbro trophy against Kingstonian even though we lost 6-0. It was my first away game and the atmosphere before the game was fantastic and there were loads of U's fans even though it was a mid-week game. My friends try take the piss but I don't care I am Sutton till I die

Newcastle

I began supporting the U's at the age of 8 when my next door neighbour got me into a reserve game for free as he was a ball-boy. I've now been a fan for over 10 years, and I went to every home game for more than 3 years before I left for Uni in September last year. Although I follow Newcastle United when I'm at Uni, the U's are still my one and only and always will be. Come on you yellows!

It all started many years ago.... a friend of my dad's took me on the coach to see the local side play at Wycombe in the FA Trophy semi final. Nice day out I thought. Mum and Dad just wanted to see the back of me I think, now they never see me at all! Their loss. Anyway, that 3-2 victory, back in 93 i think, got me hooked and I've been an avid supporter ever since. Although I don't get to see the not so Super U's too often, as am studying Politics at Hull Uni(when I can be arsed to got to lectures), I still cheer on the boys from the relative comfort of my abode (the Union bar). Come on you yellows!

I had started to get interested in football at the age of 8 when Sutton played Notts County in the cup. Despite the defeat I was determined to see Sutton play so when my primary school offered free kids tickets for the St Albans game later on in that season I was offered a perfect chance to go. We won that game 4-1 and I have been hooked since then. Even though I also support Man U (sad I know) Sutton will always be my first choice.

My best memory was beating Aylesbury 4-1 away with 10 men in the championship 6 pointer that match (along with the 6-0 win against Woking) will stay with me forever.

I had nothing to do one tuesday evening, many years ago, so I foolishly decided to go and watch a bunch of butchers, bakers (and candlestick makers) play Gravesend, another bunch of butchers, bakers (and candlestick makers). Sutton won (i forgot the score) and I was hooked. I then went to as many games as possible that season. From then on, I have been a season ticket holder.

My friends at school laugh at me, but what's the use of suporting Man Utd if you live hundreds of miles away, let alone having to cough up £30 for a ticket. It much rather pay £25 (lucky i'm a student!) for a whole season of football/shambles!

Stick by your local team. Much better value for money. I have no doubt that I will still be at GGL for many years to come.

My Mum wouldn't let me go to Chelsea because of skin'eads and bovver boys (anyone remeber them). As a compromise, my friends and I were allowed to go to see Sutton. Then came Wembley, then came Leeds and I guess the rest is just history.

I may live in Sussex now but I was born and raised in Sutton I lived in Collingwood Road as a child, and my Grand parents lived just off the relatively posh Gander Green Lane. I can still remember playing in my Nans garden at the age of 8 or there abouts, and hearing a noise from the Rec, people shouting and clapping, oh and yes! I am sure I can even remember hearing United We Stand (I miss that song). Anyway one day in about 1973/4 I was in the Rec playing on the swings just behind the ground, when I noticed the gates to the ground were open, and there was no one to stop me wandering in so I did. It was half time and in those days you could get in for free if you waited until then, this was of course a fact that I latched onto very quickly.

Well that's was it, I started to find myself drawn to the place more and more, and even got to see complete games, well until someone realised there was a gap in the fence at the back of the ground where I used to get in, I remember how upset I was finding it repaired one day. Not to be Deterred I managed to get the princely of 20p entrance fee together, from that moment on I just seemed to get hooked, I just couldn't keep away from the place. I joined the supporters club and went to my first away match in November 1975, I can remember telling my dad I was off to Hendon by coach, and is was OK course I was 11 yrs, we won 1-0.

By the time the late 70s came around I wasn't missing a game, if Sutton were playing I was there! On the pitch I don't think we were much better than we are now, so it certainly wasn't success that made me keep coming back. Suddenly things started to change, we got asked to play in the Anglo Italian cup, and looking back now I think winning it proved to be the spring board for the 80s, and some of the best football I have ever seen Sutton play. The match that I remember from that time was the semi final of the trophy away to Bangor, they hated us! We draw 2-2 but had been 2-0 down with 10 mins to go, and got totally drunk on the way home, I just hope no one else out there remembers me on that 9 hour coach trip home. I could go on about the time I was thrown out of the ground during one of the Anglo Italian games, or the time the whole of the Tooting defence wanted to come and get me for something I said to them!

For me Sutton United will always be my team, just as much as Sutton will always be home. To be honest success although nice is not that important, as we have probably had more then our fair share!

Sutton

My first Sutton game was at home against Grays some 9 years ago (I think). I enjoyed it so much I kept on going supporting them through thick and thin.

My best moment, has to be beating Aldershot and winning the league, along with beating Rushden in the trophy.

I get laughed at, at school for supporting the U's but I don't see them seeing Man U every week although they say they support them! I will follow Sutton for many years to come.
