The Swansong Era

The mid '70's saw the band with a new label, Led Zep's Swansong, and the backing of Zep and Svengali Peter Grant.
Two superb albums resulted from this liaison,
'Silk Torpedo' (great cover, don't you just lurrrve her?) And 'Savage Eye', each a refinement on what had gone before. Both great albums from start to finish. Very 70's but that's how things were back then!Silk Torpedo featured the usual hard rockers, such as
'Singapore Silk Torpedo' and 'Maybe you Tried', both highlighting the distinctive guitar sound developed by Tolson. However, the album also showed the subtler side with songs like 'Atlanta' and 'Is it only Love' (sorry guys not one of my favourites, too much brass band for me!) Still, it's one of the few pretties songs I ever heard played on the radio. There was also political comment, as ever, with 'Belfast Cowboys'. There was some great piano playing too, just check out the intro of 'Joey', 'Singapore Silk Torpedo' and 'Come Home Momma' Messrs. Povey and Edwards at their best. The line up: Phil May, John Povey, Skip Alan, Peter Tolson, Jack Green and Gordon Edwards.
