Pieces of 8

Pieces of Eight

A number of St Peter's choir men form the basis of the 'a cappella' singing group, 'Pieces of Eight', which was formed in the mid-1970's. Originally consisting of eight men-two counter tenors, two tenors, two baritones and two basses- the group had added sopranos by the 1980's

The repertoire of the group covers a wide range of music covering five centuries.

The group has performed widely throughout the North East region and a typical programme consists of madrigals, motets, glees, spirituals, folk songs and arrangements of modern songs, including Beatles numbers.

Virtually all of the groups concerts are performed freely for charitable purposes- more often than not to raise funds for new church roofs!

Rehearsals are held on Sunday evenings when worship for the day is done, cassocks and surplices are discarded and music of a lighter nature is considered.
