This is my story and, as most stories do, this one starts at the beginning.


As a child I was always thin. I ate anything but never put any weight on because I was always doing some sports at school. When I left school I started to work in old peoples homes so I was still active and I enjoyed it, both helping people and being busy. Then I started to work in restaurants - lots of food! - and that’s when I started to put on weight. Although I only put on about 1 stone [14 lb], being only 5 foot 2 inches it made me look a bit chubby.

I wasn't getting enough exercise so I kept that weight on despite slowing down on the Kentucky Fried Chicken. I was now about 9 stone 7 lb and I had a new round shape.

“Oh well, never mind”

Then when I was 20 years old I met my husband to be. I started to eat lots of fatty food, everything you can think of because my husband did (it’s all his fault!!). When I found I was pregnant with my first daughter I was really excited and I ate even more – a box of Maltesers almost every day!

I thought I would get thin as soon as my daughter was born but I didn’t. I managed to lose 2 stones by just not eating chocolate but I was still a massive 13 stone! Then after a couple of years my son came along and then five years later my daughter Claire was born. When I had a six week check up I I was shocked - I couldn’t believe it!!! - I was just over 16 STONE (224lbs)!

So I thought, that’s it, you have got to lose weight. I started that day.

I thought I would try some laxatives. I did that for about a month but I always had bad stomach ache. I then tried five different kinds of slimming pills and spent loads of money I couldn’t afford.

I got absolutely nowhere…until I saw this programme on the television that showed you how to eat sensibly and – most importantly - to drink plenty of water. It was on television for 14 weeks and I never missed one programme, it encouraged me so much.

From the day I started watching and learning from that programme in January 2000 I’ve lost 1lb to 3lb a week and I still enjoy lots of chocolates and cakes!

Today I weigh 10st 5lb (145lbs) and am still losing and best of all I feel great and really healthy .
