Compton is situated in a valley in the Berkshire Downs. This area is chalk downland and is normally dry but after the unusual wet weather in 2000 the valley now has a series of small lakes and a stream running down it. This stream goes through the village by flowing along the main street of the village. It has been like this for two months now.
