The Direct Access Course is intended as a quick way for eligible individuals to gain a full motorcycle licence, entitling you to ride any sized bike. You must be 21 or over to qualify. If you don`t have a CBT certificate it will be taught as part of the course. Please note that the DAS course is aimed at riders with some experience, usually those who are currently riding on a restricted license or `L` plates.

A DAS course usually takes a weekend to complete, with your test on the following Monday or Tuesday. This can vary due to demand and the time of year. You can take the course on your own bike or a hire bike, petrol and insurance are included. The course is intensive, so make sure you`re serious about learning before applying. We can sometimes accomidate people on a DAS course by teaching shorter lessons in the evenings or other times, please phone to enquire.

The first day of your course will be a ride covering many miles. Please bring money for food as we will stop for lunch. The instructor will be in radio contact throughout, and stop periodically to give you a chance to express your opinions. In this day you will mainly be getting comfortable with your bike and riding it on the roads. The second day will teach you everything you need to learn for the test on carefuly chosen roads, away from traffic. You will learn to handle roundabouts, all kinds of junction, hill starts, emergency stops and the U turn. Each will be taught individually. Once you have learned the maneuvers you are ready for your test.

The motorcycle test is usually taken from the Neath test centre. The time is around half an hour. Your instructor will accompany you to the test centre and the examiner will place his radio on you. Once you a ready you will travel in front of the examiner, following his instructions. On your test you will be expected to show everything you have learned but mainly display safety and a regard for the law. You will cover all types of roads as well as the neccesary maneuvers. When you return to the test center the examiner will pass or fail you and explain anything he thinks you need to brush up on.

If you pass congratulations! You are now entitled to ride any size motorcycle, unaccompanied and without L plates!
