The definition of the furry slang word "Yiff" and
how it may be used
NOTE FROM SPIRITWOLF: THIS DOCUMENT WAS ORIGINALLY CREATED BY CLOUDCHASER SHACONAGE (Cloudchaser's
webpage)
I wrote this based on what I've been told about the meaning of
yiff and how I've seen it used.
First of all, "Yiff" was created in and is unique to the furry
community, both online and offline and is basically used in the furry community much the same way that humans use the word
"Sex." For example, "Yiffy" = "Sexy."
"Yiff" has become somewhat of an abstract word, though basically, "yiff" is a furry sex word. As a noun, it's used to refer
to the sound foxes make as they are mating. Some also use it to describe what happens to males who view anthropomorphic animal
pictures with hard-core sexual content.
As an interjection, it is used like a "bark", but may also have sexual overtones. It just depends on the usage and/or intended
meaning.
As a past, present or future tense verb, "yiff" means "to have sex with." When used like that, it's used in much the same
way as what a certain (and much
more crude) 4-letter word that starts with "F" is. It can be used as "Who's
up for a yiff?" which means "Who's up for sex?" or "Are you up for a yiff," which means "Are you up for sex?" "Yiffing" can
mean "Having sex with," "Is having sex with" or simply "Having sex. "Yiffing" can also mean "Talking/Chatting." For example,
"We were yiffing in the chat room" means "We were talking/chatting in the chat room."
As an adjective, to describe something as "yiffy" would be to say it has sexual value. For instance, someone might refer to
an explicit picture of or
provocatively dressed or just plain attractive member of the opposite sex as "yiffy," or it can mean someone feeling sexy,
horny, amorous, etc. For example, "I'm feeling Yiffy" can mean "I'm feeling sexy" or "I'm feeling aroused." It takes on
a lot of meanings. "Yiff Me" would basically be the command or request "Have sex with me," depending on the inflection at
the end of the sentence. "I yiffed at her" means "I barked at her" and may or may not have a sexual overtone, it just depends
on the situation and intended meaning. It can also be used as "I yiffed her," which means "I had sex with her." "She yiffed
at me," which means "She barked at me" also may or may not imply a sexual overtone. It can also be used as "She yiffed me"
which means "She had sex with me" or "She yiffed at me" which means "She barked at me."
And finally, "Yiff" and its derivatives are never, ever used as a swear word. For example, "I can't find the yiffing thing,"
the intended meaning and use of which is the same as "I can't find the (four letter "F" word)ing thing" is using it as a swear
word.
