ELIZA BLACKLER (HARVEY)
Married: December 19, 1839 by Thomas F.H. Bridge, witnesses
William Blackler and Jane Withycombe (Anglican Cathedral marriage
records).
According to Pearl Benson, Eliza's parents, William & Elizabeth, had
only two children, lived here before the Harvey's arrived, were from
Ipplepen, Devon, and returned there later in life, where they died.
Pearl also informed me that a great deal of Southside property was owned
by the Blacklers, some of which was inherited by Eliza and her children,
especially William, her oldest son. In her old age, Eliza was cared for
by her youngest son (Pearl's grandfather) John Richard.
I have found a Jan.13, 1816 Ipplepen marriage record for a William
Blackler and an Elizabeth Taylor which I believe to be Eliza's parents
for two reasons: (1) because the names, place and date seem to be
appropriate, and (2) because Eliza named one of her children "Elizabeth
Taylor", and Eliza's son William named one of his son's "Richard
Taylor".
