When asked by Select Magazine what he thought of youth organisations: "I was in the Boys' Brigade. I was expecting all this military stuff, but all we did was play table tennis and football. If they'd told us to be like a soldier, I think we would've told them to sod off."
Tommy: "We're just finishing the album right now, just doing the final mixes. It was recorded in our own studio in Liverpool which meant there were no time constraints and so we had more of a taste monitor, a de-cheeser if you like! In all we spent nearly a year on the record, but that's not because we've been trainspotting on it. We had to fit the recording around Edwyn who had to do his TV show and stuff so it's been quite bitty.
Edwyn has a great feel for songs and I love the guitar sounds he gets. He played guitar and did backing vocals on nearly all of the tracks for this album.Every time he came to do the backing vocals he had to get rotten drunk just so he could sing. He'd pour a bottle of whiskey down his neck to get into the whole rock'n'roll thing, get vibed up for his performance. But mostly he was like a puppy, dead easy to work with and laughing all the time.
One thing Edwyn got us to do was to play as a band rather than us putting things down individually. And whereas before it was mainly loops with drums over the top, this time it's the reverse. Hopefully it'll sound like we do live, which is what we've always wanted.
