Guidelines for book reviewers
A list of books previously reviewed which can be found on Amazon.co.uk.
The following are guidelines to help you with your book review for the Forensic Update.
Volunteering (or being badgered) for a book review allows you to select from the list of currently available books (see the link above) and have it sent to you for you to keep. There are only 2 conditions for you to get a free book in this way. 1. You write a review of the book taking account of the information below. 2. The review is submitted between 8-12 weeks from receipt of the book. Anyone is eligible in principal to review a book though it is frowned upon for authors to review their own books.
Editing I must reserve the right to edit your submissions. If large changes would be required I will send the review back and ask you to undertake them, otherwise I will do them myself. Obviously this means certain errors might creep in if the original text is not clear, is not consistent in spelling or has sections missing or misplaced. As I do not have copies of each book to check chapters, authors etc. please do check your review carefully before submitting it.
Length Size does matter. Please keep your review within the limits of 400 to 900 words. Including a word count at the end of your review would be helpful.
Style Reviews rather than chapter-by-chapter synopses are encouraged, where the main arguments and approach of the book are described and critically assessed. However, do keep in mind that Forensic Update reaches an audience of wide experience and interests and thus jargon should be kept to a minimum.
References As far as possible references should not be included, only where their inclusion is absolutely crucial to the point which you are trying to make should they be added to the text.
