To influence Government
Policies, Strategies and Operations in all areas associated with the important task of
totally eradicating Bovine Tuberculosis (TB) in both the UK national cattle herd and the
UK badger population.
To help and support farmers suffering from
current and previous outbreaks of bovine TB.
To specifically seek to recover, through the Courts of Law
if necessary, 100% compensation for farmers who have suffered or are
currently suffering financially from the effect of the current Government's immediate
cessation of badger culling when taking office following the general election in May 1997.
This claim includes payment for calves of slaughtered reactive cattle.
To establish a nationwide network of county
and regional representatives who will liase with local farmers, vets, badger, wildlife and
countryside groups, etc via regular local Badger Panel meetings
To establish an internet web site to act as
a focus for the collection and dissemination of information
To seek to control the further spread of bovine TB
by addressing new and repeat outbreaks of bovine TB in cattle as and when they occur
To help develop and promote short-term effective farm
management techniques to reduce the transmission of bovine TB from badgers to
cattle
To liase and work with Government (MAFF),
NFU, Research Organisations, NFBG and associated wildlife and countryside
organisations on a project, nationwide, and local basis
To liase with farming and other media
ensuring that SETT members' views are both heard and understood via Press Releases,
Newsletters, Conferences, etc..
To ensure that the Public is both aware of and
understands the potential human health dangers and also the financial impact on
farming and farmers livelihoods.
