First three months show dramatic herd figures - whole of last year - 1453 herds under restriction.  Total for Jan to March (three months) - a staggering 495 - Watch this space! This information was given to Farmers Weekly but they chose to do nothing about it.  MAFF must now publish figures monthly.

Rumours abound that the Trials will be abandoned in the Autumn - even the NFBG has heard this.

Apparently the Government has issued a licence(s) to enable farmer(s) outside the Trials area to MOVE (not cull) infected badgers - what utter incompetence - obviously a political decision - it can't be based on science - this was also relayed to the Farmers Weekly - what's going on?  I guess both the NFU and FW are establishment organisations working for themselves rather than the farming community - thank heaven for the internets open technology.

Hansard - House of Commons debate on Milk Marque referred to the Krebs Trial - Minister indicated that the Krebs Trials were going badly operationally and that if they didn't work out then his judgement would be based on current knowledge - and therefore to cull the badger

Government's reponse to the Agri Select Committee Report includes reference to setting up a TB Forum

12 July 99

Reported the other day that MAFF workers must use gloves and masks because of the TB pathogen - somebody should tell the parents of the children that climb all over the walls and splash about in the badger latrines.

12 July 99

It's reported that staff on the Krebs Trials have been asked to sign the Official Secrets Act

Tony Blair - running scared - now wants to ban hunting to appease his 'class roots' backbenchers and  following lots of (financial?) pressure from IFAW having accepted £1 Million bribe before the General Election in May 1997. This surely will bring an increased focus to the bovine TB problem and force out some issues.  Its a pity the NFU doesn't get off the fence and reject any ban.  NFU and MAFF are still too cosy aren't they?  Time for more than just a Countryside March or Rally!!
