Descendants of Welcome Cole
Welcome. These web pages are the result of many hours of work and research by my mother into her own and my father's family. She did this without a PC or the internet although she did manage to locate a number of relations both here and abroad. In her main "Family Tree" there are approx. 800 names so there are bound to be a few errors. I apologise for this and would be grateful for corrections. This will not detract from the
admiration I have for my mother - I just wish she had not been so thorough and then I would not have had to input so much data!
Why does Uncle "Will" deserve his own page?
"Will" & "Nellie" were my mother's Uncle and Aunt. "Nellie" (Ethel Harding) was my Grandmother's half-sister.
I knew that "Uncle Will's" real name was "Welcome", such a
great name for a boy and so unusual, I though he would be the only one.
Sit down and do a family tree and find out that all first surviving sons are
called Welcome. I had heard the family legend as to the origin why the
name was used, but didn't realise that it was a serious family tradition.
The tradition appears to have travelled to the USA where the name can be found
in New York, Rhode Island and Providence (Mass).
If you are a "Cole" and you had the same tradition
in your family then I would be very pleased to hear from you - even more so if
your name is "Welcome Cole"

"Welcome Cole" - but which one!
