Allotment 2009

Allotments 1 (furthest) - 6 (nearest).

February is pay up time for the allotment, so I'll be sending £6 off to the Parish Council any day now. It will be my third year at allotment 7. It's a mile from my house and the rules are that no sheds or greenhouses are allowed , so its a bit of a task getting myself and my tools there. So far I have managed to get a boiling of potatoes and a few courgettes from it, so there is a lot of scope for improvement. This year, as always, I intend to achieve more.

Getting There!

So far I have planted broad beans, courgettes, Swift and Charlotte potatoes. The courgette seeds were taken from a ripe marrow earlier this year. I'm not sure if they'll grow, but it's worth a try.

Allotment 7 - My Plot!

On 28th March this year my allotment looked totally uncared for. 100% thick, lush green fresh weeds and grass. I began digging on my own, but have since had help from my family and other half. Slowly now we are starting to make an impression on it.

WOW - 21st May 2004

I don't have a picture yet, but it's amazing how the allotment has come on over the past few weeks. I couldn't have done it without other half. He's dug the whole plot over for me while i have been planting and keeping the weeds out of the newly dug soil. The potatoes are just coming through, and are getting earthed back up. The broad beans did well, most germinated. I also have peas, beetroot and radishes coming through. None of my courgettes germinated. I had saved some seeds from a ripe marrow last year -they did nothing. A packet of commercial seeds also failed. I'm not sure why, because I usually find they grow really well. I'll keep trying. Only 3 out of about 30 french bean seeds germinated, so some more of those will go in. I'm finding that certain seeds seem to do better than others. At the moment I'm favouring Suttons. The weekend again tomorrow, and I so look forward to getting to the allotment. I love it there.
