Sale Cruising Club
About Us

The inaugural meeting of the Club was on the 20th August 1959, starting with nine boats, by our founder members Jim Brewer, Fred Rawson and Jim Cox. In March 1960 the founders joined with members of B.M.B.C., Lymm C.C and Worsley C.C to form the Federation of Bridgewater Cruising Clubs.

Our club quickly grew in membership, which our moorings between Sale and Marsland Road bridges could accommodate, until with the advert of steel hulls, and more members, further moorings were taken in 1976 at Timperley, also in 1976 the club became a company, limited by shares.

In 1971 the slipway was in action and electricity made available, and during recent years toilets, elsan disposal and a friendly, thriving clubhouse have been acquired.

Monthly meetings are held in the clubhouse and also various social evenings take place. The Commodore arranges a club cruising programme during the summer months and members taking part have a lot of pleasure. Also various charity cruises take place.

With more leisure time than in the past, Sale C.C members are making good use of the canals and rivers all over the country, with an enthusiasm our founder members would have been proud to see.

The club is also affiliated to the I.W.A and the A.W.C.C.
