Founded in 2002, Ryhill & Havercroft Sports
F.C play the West Yorkshire Association Football League Division 1 after a successful
season in Division 2 during the 2002 - 2003 season. The first year in Division 2 saw
us promoted in 2nd place and a League Cup victory over Hartshead Seniors (at Nostell
Miners Welfare F.C) saw us complete a fantastic first season in the West Yorkshire League.
Before joining the West
Yorkshire League, Ryhill played in the Barnsley Premier Division (Sunday League) but the
new facilities that we have had built (via the National Lottery Funding) has made our
facilities one of the best in the area and we decided to compete in the West Yorkshire
League in which we have had a good first season.
The team mainly consists of
local players with the exception of 2 French lads (don't quite know how we managed to sign
them on but we did). The majority of the team have either played in the West
Yorkshire League Premier Division, North East Counties etc. so we have a good basis to
build for the future.
Ryhill have
started well to life in Division 1, and finished the season in 4th place.
Next season Ryhill will be pushing for a promotion spot to the Premier
Division.
Ryhill beat Nostell
Miners Welfare of the West Yorkshire Premier Division 1 v 0 at Oakwell in
the Sheffield Cup Final on Wednesday 21st April 2004.
Ryhill beat Rothwell
Athletic 3 v 2 at Knaresborough Town FC to secure the West Yorkshire League
Division 1 Cup on Saturday 1st May 2004 to achieve a cup double.
Well done to the lads
on this great achievement.
Ryhill had lost 2 key
players from last seasons successful squad (Richard Hirst & Chris Darby). Richard Hirst
who went to
ply his trade at Wakefield & Emley has now re-joined Ryhill & Havercroft
Sports F.C and Goalkeeper Chris Darby has joined
Kinsley Boys.
Ryhill have also introduced a
second team that will playing in the Wakefield League during the 2004/2005
season and this team will have lots of young players who hopefully will
break through to the first team during the coming season.
Ryhill have lost Laurent
Jamot who has returned to France and Graham Aubrey who has accepted a job in
Dubai, if there are any players interested in joining Ryhill, please feel
free to come down on a Saturday and introduce yourself to the manager, Lincoln Woods.
