Will Multi-Symptom Tylenol Allergy Complete Cause Drowsiness? Will Multi-Symptom Tylenol Allergy Complete Cause Drowsiness?

old_woman_84 replied: "Probably. Most allergy medicine will make you drowsy"

I took some Tylenol Multi Symptom Cold Medicine. How long should I wait to breast feed again? My milk supply is VERY LOW (I just quit taking the mini pill because of this) and I want to increase my supply. In the meantime, we've been supplementing with formula for most of his feedings. I took a dose of this last night and without thinking about it started to breast feed him this morning (for 1-2 minutes when I remembered taking the medicine). Will this hurt him? How long does it take for this to get out of my system before it's safe to continue breast feeding him again? 1 Dose = 2 Caplets Acetaminophen 325 mg/per caplet Dextromethorphan HBr 10 mg/per caplet Guaifenesin 200 mg/per caplet Phenylephrine HCI 5 mg/per caplet

memyselfandI replied: "Depends what was in the med. If it is not a nite time formula should be fine. My pharmacist gave me tylenol cold daytime formula when I was nursing and said it was completely safe to take while breastfeeding"

joey322 replied: "don't worry about it. whatever meds got into your milk is minimal and won't hurt the baby. i took tylenol cold multi-symptom when i was pregnant at my dr's orders b/c i had a really bad bug. i said..."isn't this going to affect the baby?" he said "it's fine, i promise, these meds have been around forever and aren't going to hurt him. they will only help you feel better." i took the med and i felt better and my baby is fine! the moral of the story is....don't stress about it. it's fine:)"

aries1 replied: "I breastfed all five of my kids and none of them have ever had a reaction when I would take cold medicine. If you are worried then you should continue to pump your milk (this keeps your supply) for the next 24 hours and throw it away. You should be in the clear after that. My opinion would be to continue to breastfeed because you want to keep your baby from becoming too dependent on artificial nipples while you are continuing to increase your milk supply. The little amount of cold medicine you took should not affect your baby."

momma2mingbu replied: "What are the active ingredients besides acetaminophen? Acetominophen is an "L1" or the safest category and you don't have to wait at all to nurse. But I'm assuming there may be additional active ingredients? Please check the package and I'll look them up for you. Does it have a decongestent in it? Both pseudoephedrine and phenylephrine are generally considered to be safe for the breastfed baby, but pseudoephedrine may reduce milk supply. So if you have supply problems already, be cautious about taking decongestents! ETA: DO NOT pump and dump! If you are concerned, call a Lactation Consultant or a La Leche League Leader to look up drugs in "Medications & Mother's Milk" by Dr. Hale. (They will have more accurate info than most doctors and pharmacists!) ETA AGAIN: Acetaminophen 325 mg/per caplet Dextromethorphan HBr 10 mg/per caplet Guaifenesin 200 mg/per caplet Phenylephrine HCI 5 mg/per caplet Like I said, the Acetaminophen is a L1 (safest) and is FINE. Dextromethorphan is also an L1 - no problem. Guaifenesin is a L2 (safer) and Hale lists no pediatric concerns. Phenylephrine is an L3 (moderately safe) and again, Hale lists no pediatric concerns. All should be fine.....no reason to delay nursing."

aaja replied: "Don't worry. I'm breastfeeding too and I had flu last week. I ask the doctor what can I take and she said really almost everything, just stay away from Sudafed - not that it would hurt the baby, but it could dry up your milk."

jessiebella677 replied: "i dont think nursing would harm your baby at all even though you took the meds.but if you are concerned i am pretty sure that it stays in your breast milk until you express it.another words your body does not renew the milk thats in your breasts until it is out then your body replenishes.kinda like your bladder filling up,liquid keeps going in and does not get reabsorbed or replaced you have to expel it.so i would suggest that you pump a couple times dump it (only if you are that worried)and then go back to nursing.i am not sure if this is absolutely neccassary though.call your ped or obgyn, they would know for sure."

can you take "Tylenol cold multi-symptom" if you're taking tetracycline? right now i'm taking tetracycline for acne and i wanna know if it's safe to take the Tylenol multi-symptom while i'm also taking tetracycline? my doctor isn't available at the moment either by the way...

vikman3001 replied: "Yes you will be fine taking Tylenol. Hope you feel better! I'm coming down with a cold too."

La Chica Loca replied: "Epocrates (clinical site for nurses/doctors) says there are no known interactions between the two drugs, which means it should be fine to take. But you should still consult your doctor."

rawwrjem replied: "I was on tetracycline for ages for my skin and my doctor said I was fine to take this kind of medication. I think it is only things like important tablets like beta blockers and anti-biotics that you really have to be careful about =]"

I started taking Tylenol Cold Multi Symptom but now I want to take Mucinex to release the phlegm. Is this ok? I've been taking the Tylenol Cold for 2 1/2 days. I have asthma and really want to get rid of the chest congestion. Any suggestions? Thanks.

MedLabGuy replied: "Hi, It should be okay. However, Tylenol Cold Multi Symptom has the same active ingredient as Mucinex - Guaifenesin around 200mg., it is okay to take up to 400mg of Guaifenesin every 4hrs, but do not exceed 2,400mg of it in a 24hr period. Hope this helps. NS Clinical Lab Scientist"

Can i take Tylenol multi symptom cold medicine AND Tylenol that is a fever reducer at the same time? Because my mom says its ok. the medicine is children..

Will one dose of Phenylephrine in Tylenol Cold Multi-Symptom be dangerous to baby while pregnant? It's a level C drug and was in some OTC medicine and taken by mistake.

31 Weeks with #2 replied: "that depends on how far along you are. if your out of first trimester it should be okay but you should always ask your dr. before taking anything."

Canada Baby, 24 weeks :) replied: "If you've already taken it, don't worry. Nothing you can do now except ask your doctor :)"

Is it safe to take Tylenol Cold Multi-Symptom Severe Daytime when going to bed? ive got a kinda bad headache i thik its a tension headache cause it feels like someone is pushing in on my head on the sides and not letting go. but it says Daytime and im about to go to sleep is it safe to take it? Im 15 145 lbs. i know it probably is but i just wanted to ask because there's a reason it says Daytime.

alexi replied: "yea, its safe. the nighttime just makes you sleepy. thats really the only difference"

Ranesha replied: "it might keep you from sleeping"

Ben replied: "Daytime and nighttime formulations usually only differ in the ingredient list, nighttime mixes have a better chance of making you drowsy and daytime mixes may keep you up depending on what's in it. If you take it you'll probably be fine, worst case is you have a bit of trouble getting to sleep."

sistahkittycat replied: "Yeah, it's safe. The nighttime formula just has an extra ingredient to help you go to sleep. Make sure you take medicine by what the directions say."

Ric S replied: "its 12:21 and you'll be here until 6 am, you won't sleep, but at least you head won't hurt."

Max Power replied: "it just means its non drowsy, it is fine but it will be harder to sleep"

Jamie replied: "It's definately safe to take the recommended dosage of day time tablets even though it's night time. The difference between day and night cold and flu tablets is that night time ones usually have pseudoephedrine which can make people feel drowsy and usually results in a better sleep when you're sick, where as the daytime tablets don't have that ingredient. However, if you have a headache and no other cold and flu symptoms, you should probably just take an asprin! Or if it persists, a visit to your doctor would be best."

Extroverter replied: "Does Tylenol contain ibuprofen? I do not like taking NSAIDS although ibuprofen is the safest of all.....I like paracetemol much better as it is gentler to the stomach. Now if you want to sleep as well you can try (with the paracetemol) an old fashioned antihistamine (the drowsy type)...say Avomine. This is not as addictive as sleeping tablets and is as well anti nausea.And...your symptom may be that of an allergy (these cause severe headaches in many patients"

Pregnant w/ cold... Tylenol multi-symptom? Tylenol? I called my OB and got the ok for Tylenol or sudafed but the pharmacist said she only took regular Tylenol... Can I take the daytime multi for my nasal congestion, soar throat and headache? Pharmacist reccomended Suphedrine PE but others have said stay away from it. I have the Tylenol multi and I'd really like to take it b/c I'm miserable. BTW, I'm in second trimester and for all of the people who will tell me to ask my Dr. I'm asking in this forum simply because my OB's office is closed now and I've already called twice today!

Tio's Baby Mama replied: "I would simply take the regular strength Tylenol . . I think that's really the only thing that's completely safe to take . . ."

jerseymilo9 replied: "NO!! There are ingredients in the "cold" portion of the Tylenol and other cold medicines that are not safe for the fetus."

jakesmom replied: "I would recommend that you take just plain tylenol. I had a horrible cold when I was pregnant and my husband ran out and got me the multi symptom. I took it and was up all night. Good Luck, Hope you feel better soon"

singitoutloudandclear replied: "if you are in the second trimester it is fine for you to take a sudephedrine product. But you should not take anything that is like Motrin or aspirin that acts like a blood thinner. Tylenol cold or allergy is fine. or some threaflu hot drink mix. they have Tylenol in them, not Motrin or aspirin. good luck. mother of 2 with one on the way."

Diane A replied: "Take Sudafed. I had 2 colds during my last pregnancy, and it was recommended by my doctor. You could also take Allegra if you have a Rx already, but ask your Dr. first cause some Dr. are weird about it. The only problem I found with Sudafed is that it is non-drowsy, and difficult to sleep while taking it. If it gives you the gitters, then I recommend Tylenol instead."

redhead replied: "don't take anything with psuedoephedrine in it! they now make nasal decongestant with the PE(phenylephrine) or something like that, but the PE ingredient is supposed to be alot safer."

Curious1 replied: "I really feel for you. It's terrible when you are unwell and you're not allowed to take anything cause you're pregnant. If you're OB has said it's ok trust them. If you have an oil burner at home put a few drops of eucalyptus oil in and that should help to make breathing easier. A eucalyptus rub( in Australia we use Vicks but you could mix some of the eucalyptus oil with some Vaseline and that should work too) on the chest, neck and back also help with congestion relief. And a few drops of oil on a hankie that you can sniff will also help. I hope you are feeling much better soon. It's hard to enjoy your pregnancy when you are ill. Best of luck."

mommy2savannah51405 replied: "sudafed. i used that when i got sick or claritin if its allergy related..even for congestion/stuffyness it works well"

Lea replied: "Tylenol is ok for pregnant women to take. I'm not familiar with PE. I would never recommend PE, in the first place, because it does not work."

Could I take tylenol warming cold multi-symptom while drinking pedialyte? Tylenol says not to take it with stuff that has acetaminophen, and I don't see on the pedialyte. I just want to make sure though. Thanks in advance.

Nicole replied: "Pedialyte is kind of like gatorade...it puts electrolytes back into your body.... so yes you can take tylenol and drink pedialyte."

is it safe to take tylenol cold multi symptom night time during the day? it me and my girlfriends anniversary today a year and 1 month and i plan on taking her to lunch and i don't feel good will i be able to walk around if i take it come on people please

McAwesome replied: "Of course you can. The "night" versions of medicines merely have things to reduce the stimulus they might cause, helping you sleep better."

Kittykat24 replied: "If you plan to drive, then the answer is NO! Those night time medicines have sleep aids in them so you can get your rest, and they make you very drowsy. In fact if you read the packaging it will probably tell you just that. If you don't have to drive, go ahead, but you could be very drowsy! I would suggest dayquil or something like that."

weebler76 replied: "It will make you drowsy."
