vocal change! |
|
9:01am BST
If you have heard Ronan's new album, 'Destination' lately (which we are
sure many of you have by now - we hope!), you will find in some songs
that Ronan's voice is very different indeed! We are familiar with
Ronan's style in songs like 'When You Say Nothing At All', 'Lovin' Each
Day', 'The Way You Make Me Feel' and the recent number 1, 'If Tomorrow
Never Comes'.
Speaking to mrib, Ronan described what
happened when recording his voice on the new album: "It's just kind of
happened. But I think it's my voice, more than anything. Put any backing
track behind me and I sound like me, which is nice. However, the one
thing people say about this album is that I do sound different vocally
and that's because I've had more time to actually think about this album
and work on the vocal."
Have you heard? It looks
certain that Ronan's new album is going to enter the UK number 1
spot in the albums chart! Want to find out how different and cool
this album is? Then buy the album! It's out now!

22/5/2002 -
ronan slams record labels |
|
9:31pm BST
Ronan thinks that it is about time that record companies concentrated on
the music artist's talents rather than how much records they sell.
Speaking to mrib recently, Ronan criticised the way record companies
treat their music artists: "Record companies are looking for an
immediate thing. Right now, that's all it's about. If you don't have a
hit record, they'll f****** drop you in the morning."
However, Ronan viewed it another way
looking at the fact that some record companies have to hold on to
artists to survive: "I think its changing. I think record
companies know that they have to start locking on to artists. I mean,
Ryan Adams is a good sign. That's a long term project, I hope it is, 'cos
I thought the album Gold was great."
Ronan however still insists that Pop
Idol winner, Will Young has not been well treated by his record label:
"I didn't really watch the show. [Will Young and Gareth Gates] are
talented. The guys can sing. Thank God. It's scary to see it and
who they're surrounded by. I worry about that. I think it was terrible
that Will had a No.1 record and then it was just handed over to Gareth.
It's all about marketing."
Finally, Ronan talked about still
wanting hit singles but thinks that album sales are of first priority:
"I would be worried if the singles weren't doing well, but the album
tells more. The album is far more important than the single. But I
still want hits. I wanna be the best I can be. That's the problem now.
People don't wanna be good at anything anymore. They want to be famous.
I wanna be great at what I do."

21/5/2002 -
ronan's best yet |
|
9:43am BST
Ronan thinks that the new album 'Destination' (out now!) is an album
which reflects on what he is today. Speaking to mrib recently
Ronan talked about how satisfied he was with the new album: "It's my
first real body of work. The first album that I made, I worked
with a lot of producers and songwriters so there were a lot of different
sounds and lot of different feelings, whereas this album, it's just been
Gregg Alexander and myself so there's one sound and a continuity through
the album. It's a sound that I've arrived at that I feel comfortable
with. That's why I called the album Destination, because it took time to
find my feet."
Ronan also talked about working with
former New Radical front man, Gregg Alexander: "We're good mates. We
have a real good laugh together and he understands me and the music that
I want to make. Everyone needs that Bernie Taupin figure or Guy
Chambers."

Lulu' tonight at 9:00pm on ITV1 (UK). He'll be singing his number

|
|
18/5/2002 -
image isn't everything |
|
9:42am BST
Ronan isn't concerned about his image now than a few years back.
Speaking to mrib, Ronan admitted that when he was in Boyzone, the only
thing that he was concerned about was his hair and his clothes: "I used
to really worry about it. When I was in a boyband, it was all
about the image and ten per cent music, which is sad. But it's the other
way round for me now."
Ronan is proud with his hairy chest,
however he found that his hairy chest was removed on the single cover of
the US version of 'Lovin' Each Day' (you can check it out in the
Singles Discography, in the imports section,
to see why!!). Ronan was not happy about it responding: "They
changed it. They went and did it behind my back so I told them,
'no, the record's not going out.' They thought it wasn't attractive in
the US. They must all shave it off. I got 'em to put it back on."
Finally, Ronan laughed about the fact
that the press made reports that he was spending lots of money to get
his teeth fixed in order to break the US: "I just got them cleaned up
and sorted out the way people do when they get time off. I had
time off and thought I'd do the things we all do when we get time off.
Twenty-something grand I was meant to have spent on them but I think it
was around £1,800 to get my teeth done. Dentist's are expensive, you
know. If I had spent that much on them, then I'd want them to be gold.
I'd be like that rapper Master P."
 |
|
17/5/2002 -
and now there is three |
|
10:14am BST
As many of you have realised (or perhaps haven't
realised), Ronan's new album, 'Destination' will be out on 20th May
2002 (next Monday!). With just 3 days - yes, that's
right, 3 days to go, you the fans should be jumping for joy in
absolute excitement at any place at any time! The UK version has
got 14 brilliant tracks and include the hits, 'If Tomorrow Never
Comes' (which we are sure you have heard...and bought!) and 'Lovin' Each
Day' (as many of you must have heard...if not, are you sure you are at
the right place?? Sorry to those who have just heard the new tune
- this quote wasn't meant to target you!!). There's also an
exclusive weblink which is only available on the CD!
What else can we say?? Just make sure 20th May 2002 is a

|
17/5/2002 -
too many entourages! |
|
10:09pm BST
Ronan has slammed celebrities who surround themselves with entourages.
Speaking about this issue, Ronan discussed how some stars have failed to
give any respect to people and has learnt some lessons: "When I hosted
the MTV Awards a few years ago, all these stars all came along with
their entourages and came in and treated the crew and their staff like
dirt. It really opened my eyes. I don't surround myself with
people who treat me like a star. It's unhealthy. I've been
with the same people for nine years. They know who I am. I don't
have an entourage, that just goes to your head. I'm not interested."

|
|
16/5/2002 -

|
16/5/2002 -
losing fans means getting more! |
|
11:21am BST
In a recent report, Ronan admitted that when he quit Boyzone, he thought
he lost a lot of fans. Ronan talked about his thoughts: "It was
overnight from boyband to solo artist. The hysteria disappeared
overnight. I'm not joking you, it suddenly went from being met in
Bangkok by 10,000 screaming girls, to just two or three people."
Despite losing some fans, his number 1
single 'If Tomorrow Never Comes', his records were selling fantastically
well: "The funny thing is, now I sell more records now than I ever did,
which is weird. People my age buy my records which didn't really
happen when I was in Boyzone. It was younger girls or older women. Now
guys come up to me in the street and say 'Hi, how's it going. Love the
record.' Parents come up to me and shake my hand. There's a younger
audience and an older audience. Thank God, I've got an across-the-board
fanbase."
