So you want
to catch a Salmon

 |
OK
here we go!
Firstly you must consider the strength of line, I would suggest anything
between 6lbs to 12bls. Next the hook size, (I would use a hook that
is strong so avoid fly tying hooks) a size 8-14 is sufficient depending
on which bait you are using.
I
have perfected a method for fishing for salmon on the Kelvin with much
success, It involves one worm and two to three red maggots:
The Method
:
Set
up your rod by following the diagram (see below). Use a heavy weight
to hold against the current (1oz-3oz depending on the spate). Watch
for the salmon and try to predict where the salmon will be lying. Throw
in your line and hold on to the rod tightly incase you strike it lucky.
When you
get the bite from the salmon you will count down from 3 then set the hook
with a well timed strike. When you have hooked yourself a salmon DO NOT
try to reel it in as it will snap your line like a piece of thread, instead
play the salmon until it tires and lies on its side, then you can net
it.
Playing
a Salmon?
Basically
when the salmon pulls against the line let it, when it stops you
start to reel it in. This is a method that is used in fishing especially
when you have hooked a big fish. It might take some time
to get the salmon to the net but if you don't use the "playing"
method your line will snap and unfortunately so will you.
