Ticklish History The electronic band Ticklish was formed in 1995 and has continued to develop into one of the most cohesive experimental groups in London. Consisting of three sampler players and a live video operative Ticklish combine polyrhythmic pulses and abstract textures with a parallel video experience and have has become increasingly visible on the European avant garde electronica scene. The highly regarded German label GROB released the group’s first album, which was recorded and produced by the group in South London. This was followed by the release of "Rubato" a long track which was one side of 12" record released by Textile Vinyl of France. The other side was by the russion electronica outfit "Fizzarum".
Within the last two years the group has performed at various European festivals and events including Impakt in Holland, MomaElectronica in Oxford, Factual Nonsense and Space 1999 in London, Kaleidophon in Austria and FAM in Berlin. They have performed alongside such artists as DAT Politics, Marcus Schmickler, Fennesz, The High Llamas, Thomas Lehn, Jim O’Rourke, Scanner, Carsten Nicolai, Burnt Friedman, Oval, Ryoji Ikeda and U-Ziq. |

PERSONEL Phil Durrant- (samplers) performs throughout Europe and North America and has recorded many CDs. He has a regular duo with saxophonist John Butcher, a trio with Thomas Lehn and Radu Malfatti and is a member of MIMEO. He has composed many pieces for leading choreographers including Maxine Doyle and Gill Clarke.
Rob Flint is an artist who performs with moving image media. He has worked with artists such as, Sean O'Hagan and The High Llamas, for whom he produced a video for the song "Bach Ze", Toshimaru Nakamura, and butoh dancer Ken Mai, with the multi media performance Shin Kyodo. Recently he co-curated motor:show at proof in Bermondsey, showing work by Hayley Newman, Brian Catling, and Tina Frank. His essay on the artist Gustav Metzger was published in the MoMA Oxford "Retrospectives" series, and he collaborated on the MoMAelectronica event where he also performed with Ticklish. Kev Hopper- (samplers) was once the bass player in Stump. Since that group’s demise he has recorded three solo albums and become increasingly known as a skilled performer on the musical saw. His latest CD Whispering Foils is available on Duophonic records. Other collaborators include Stereolab, Charles Hayward and Des De Moor. Richard Sanderson- (samplers) is also a singer, a composer and the Curator of the “post improv” club Baggage Reclaim. He has a trio with Steve Beresford and Anna Homler, and plays organ and electronics with the explorative pop group Minnow. He is a director of the London Musicians’Collective. |
