Barcrest MPU3
Maygay M1A

This is I have to say one of my favourite machines, and the 1st one I actually owned, which was about 8 years ago.I was having a day out in Clacton, just to see if it was the same as I remembered it, which of course it was.Anyway I found this arcade, Sunspot amusements, I went inside, and loads of the machines had for sale stickers on them, so I walked up to the service room, and the engineer said he had 2 which he had just serviced, one of which was of course Line Up, I couldn't believe my eyes, so I asked how much, and he said £25! (bloody hell, is he mad!).I just had to get it, my partner seemed quite happy with the idea, a sort of souvenier of the day, most people just buy a stick of rock.I had it for about 2 years, after which it suddenly packed in, not knowing what I do now (ie it's worth a lot of money), I promptly set about smashing it up, and taking it to the tip.I did however keep 2 items, one the top glass, which I actually sent to Andy Tutton (Pandy), as it's his favourite machine, and I appreciated him allowing me to play the game again. The other item was the coin mech which I used when I built a Mame cabinet, I basically soldered it to a keyboard, so it triggered the coin input key.

I remember playing this machine, way back in 1983, when I lived in Dawlish, S.Devon, as it was way ahead of it's time, being the 1st machine released using the new MPU3 board. Most of arcades around had one of these, and although I mostly played videogames, if I was going to play a fruity, it was always a barcrest MPU3 one, with exception to Each Way Nudger (JPM).I loved the sound of MPU3 machines, very synthetic, and fitting in well with the synthesized music of the time, which was always blasting out of the arcades speakers. It may be sad to most of you, but for me that was what made the arcades of that time so great, the music, the atomsphere, and the games.

Yet another MPU3 machine I remember playing, and one of the first I remember to have an LED message display, which used to display witty little comments, to try and grab your attention as you walked past, in the hope of relieving you of any 10p coins you had left in your pocket.OK I promise I wont list any more MPU3 machines (OK, maybe just a few!), these 3 are my favourites, and so I have to have them.

This is another definative layout from the MPU3 SAS team, is a new one to me, but even after all these years, a very enjoyable machine to play, a true Barcrest classic.

I was lucky enough to own this machine for real, purchased as a birthday present for my partner, until last year when I had to sell it on Ebay to make more space for my sons ever expanding toy collection!.Great fun to play with some cool sound FX and features.

Another classic Maygay machine, usually found in most seaside arcades on 5p play £5 jackpot.Like Donkey Kong, this is great fun to play, with great speech, and sound, something which I consider as important as actually making any money.I don't normally play to win a fortune, so much as play to waste a bit of time in an arcade on a rainy day, in an enjoyable way, without loosing any money!.
