The RAF High Wycombe Taekwon-Do
School is one of many in the RAF. The school’s instructor, Mrs Lynda
Langfield 5th Dan Black Belt, has taught at many RAF Stations including
Akrotiri and Wyton.
The School was started in January
2004 and has over 30 pupils ranging from 4 years of age to 40. We were
fortunate enough that our regular training night fell on the 50th
Anniversary and to celebrate we organised a special
training session.

The session was opened up to the
families of all the students and it was pleasing to see so many brothers,
sisters, mums and dads joining in with the fun. An introduction to the
art by some of the students was followed by a light training session, in
which some of the basic techniques were taught to the visitors. A couple
of Taekwon-Do based games allowed the younger, and some of the older
students and visitors to have some fun whilst learning some more about the
art.
The families’ training session
ended with a presentation of commemorative plaques to the registered
students and a group photograph.

Some of the graded students then
made an attempt to break 50 boards in 30 minutes; Rhys Anderson, with the
first break of the evening, started the event. By the time Mrs Langfield
broke the final board there were some tired legs and arms but
unfortunately we had exceeded our 30 minute target by 3 minutes, although
this has now set us a challenge for the future.

All in all, the evening was a
great success enjoyed by everyone who attended. It was especially
relevant for some of the younger students who, if they work and train
hard, could well be celebrating Taekwon-Do’s 100th Anniversary as a Grand
Master!
