This is a help page for the 007 Nightfire Demo. It contains screenshots, a map of the area, hints and tips and a walkthrough of the game. Note: As with any walkthrough, it contains spoilers and by reading this before trying out the demo you will loose some of the fun of finding things out for yourself.

 Synopsis

After arriving at the mansion, Mayhew is just about to hand you the secret code you came for when the place is attacked by Yakuza terrorists, one of whom smashes through the window. Your first objective is to get Mayhew to the safety of his bunker. He shows the way while you take care of the bad guys who are trying to stop you.

This first stage is pretty easy as long as you are quick off the mark, shooting at the heads of the baddies as soon as you enter a room. You will suffer a few hits but not enough to kill you before you get to the bunker where a replacement bullet-proof vest is available.

At the bunker Mayhew sets your new objectives: rescue his serving girls who are being held hostage around the property, destroy his computer (by shooting it) and recover the code from his safe (by placing a bead in the mouth of the ornamental dragon in his bedroom). You are on your own and there are about 40 or so baddies all over the place. If any of the servant girls get killed then you have failed and the game is over.

General Hints

You have a range of weapons and bulletproof vest. You can collect extra ammo by walking over  the bodies of baddies you have killed. Your vest will take a number of hits (shown by the iris graphic in the bottom left hand corner). When the vest is used up, the next shot kills you – fortunately there are spare vests secreted around the place (see map). It is best not to change vests if the old one still has some life in it – wait till it is pretty worn out to get the best value from the new one.

Don’t forget to collect the sniper rifle (and ammo) from the bunker before you leave. You can pick off a lot of the baddies from a safe distance by using the telescopic lens, reducing the number you have to shoot out with. Sniper bullets are hard to find though.

In hostage situations always kill the guy holding the hostage before any others, if he is alarmed he will shoot the hostage and the game is over.

Using the silencer or tranquillizing dart pen will disable baddies without alarming the others nearby. They will react to the sound of a gunshot or the sight of a laser but don’t seem to notice a colleague of theirs slumping down in a heap in front of them.

Many of the rooms have more than one entry point. It is worthwhile entering from one direction, picking off the nearest and easiest baddies then exiting quickly and re-entering from the other direction to pick off the rest from behind (see map)

Some rooms have an upstairs gallery where baddies will shoot down at you. It is sometimes best to take care of them first then shoot down at the remainders.

Always aim for the head – they have bullet-proof vests too!

I have found no way to get from the Pavilion Garden to the rest of the house (let me know if you find one) other than by going back through the bunker.

It is possible to dive into the lake in the Pavilion or Bath house garden and swim under the bath house emerging via a ladder and trap door in the main bathing room.

Apart from the above there seems to be no point at all in getting wet by jumping into the various garden ponds. Once you are in you cannot get out, you can still be shot and you will eventually drown or get bitten by fish anyway…

Above the library there is an external balcony where you can look down on the garden and pick off the guards.

Once the pressure is off you can have a lot of fun using Mayhew's art collection as a shooting gallery. Try bombarding one of the hanging  lanterns in the Pavilion Garden.

Finally, there are so many baddies that in a straight shoot out you cannot possibly win. Stealth is the answer, hide in shadows, find key vantage points where you can pick baddies off in comfort, make use of screens etc to hide behind, approach doorways from the side.

Walkthrough

This is just one way through and not necessarily the best. You will achieve all the objectives while avoiding a lot of the guards. You will get the chance to pick off a fair number from the safety of a telescopic sniper rifle. You will still get shot at but the route goes past spare bulletproof vests roughly when you are likely to need them.

Bath House Hostage

You emerge from the bunker in the Bath house Garden. Dive for the tree to the left behind which you can hide. Use the infra red specs to locate the various baddies patrolling about and use the telescopic rifle to pick them off one by one. Don't forget the one guarding the bath house door. If you are patient you should be able to get them all in your sights without moving position.

Once you have cleared the garden, run past all the bodies to collect ammo, head for the bath house, step over the dead baddy, open the door and emerge into a small corridor.

Before you open the second bath house door be prepared with handgun and silencer already pointing at head level. Open the door and shoot the two baddies quickly and accurately in the head to avoid alarming the hostage taker who is behind the wall to the left. Re-arm with the sniper rifle. Move to the far left hand opening (no door) and position yourself so you can see the hostage taker behind the wall. Shoot him accurately using the sights if necessary – there is no second chance!

Once you have been rewarded by the grateful hostage move back into the main room and take the door opposite the one you came in by. Take the next door facing you and emerge into the pavilion garden (game domain change).

Pavilion Hostage

From your position in front of the door you should be able to take out all the guards in the garden with the telescopic rifle. The ones to your left will be hidden for the most part by shrubbery, use the infra red specs to position them and have your sights ready for them as they emerge. Most important of all take out the two guards patrolling the verandah surrounding the pavilion, you will have to wait while each one comes round.

Once the garden is clear, move to roughly the middle from where you can see in through the window of the pavilion. With the telescopic sight you should be able to see the hostage and hostage taker. Aim carefully. The first shot will smash the window, the second will kill the hostage taker.

There is no way through to the rest of the house from here so go back the way you came either through the bath house or through the large ornamental gateway connecting the two gardens. Go down to the bunker, past Mayhew and up again to emerge through the secret door into the Gallery. If the ungrateful bastard complains about you not having finished your mission yet it is permissible to knock him out without losing the game.

The gallery and main hallway will be clear of baddies (you killed them in the opening section) but there may be some ammo to pick up. On the right in the main hall is the front door leading to the car park where the next hostage is.

Car Park Hostage

Arm yourself with the laser rifle and stand to the left of the door before opening it.

Once open, side step to the right. You will see the hostage and can take out her captor with a single well placed shot. Step back behind the door to protect yourself from the other two guards. You now know roughly where they are and should be able to emerge twice from the door knowing where to aim and get them before they have chance to do you too much damage.

Collect any ammo from the car park then head back inside and turn right down to the door at the opposite end  from the Gallery.

Open the door (game domain change). When you emerge, there is an open lattice on the right through which you can see one distant stationary guard and one nearer one that patrols up and down. Use the telescopic rifle to take out the near one first then the distant one.

There are two more guards to take care of here who will emerge if you move. Use any weapon to take out the near one on the left. The other will run to the far end of the hall giving you time to switch back to the telescopic and use full zoom to get him right in the centre of his bald head.

Its not over yet! Turn right into the reception room entrance way. There is a baddy upstairs who will shoot down at you if you enter the room. From the entranceway you should be able to pick him off with any weapon with sights ducking back to avoid his fire.

Run upstairs. On the left is a short corridor with a single door. Inside you will find a stupid guard with his back to you staring at the contents of the wardrobe. Shoot him. In the wardrobe you will find a new bulletproof vest (which you will probably need by now).

Servants' Quarters Hostage

Back downstairs and turn right. Run to the end of the corridor and turn left and through the door into the servant quarters.  There are three baddies here who will shoot at you with laser rifles.  You can use the projecting screens to the right for cover and if you sneak up slowly may be able to pick one off from a distance without alerting the others.  There will be a lot of shooting but since you are wearing a new vest you should come through it. The important thing is not to move too far down the corridor. The hostage taker is on the left half way down - if you pass this point he will shoot the hostage.

Once the guards are out of the way sneak up along the right hand wall and hide behind one of the projecting screens. If you position yourself carefully you can get the hostage taker in your sights and bump him off without him noticing.  Once he is gone there is a final unobservant baddy in the hostage room who seems to be quite happy for you to walk up to him and shoot.

Mayhew's Hard Drive

At the far end of the servants' quarters is a door that leads to the Office with the computer in it. Every time I have entered that room, the Yakuza standing at the computer is so engrossed he never notices me enter. A simple shot through the back of the head takes care of him. A second shot through the computer takes care of Mayhew's hard disk problem. Surprisingly if you shoot the monitor that also makes the computer blow up - that's probably there for dummies who don't know the difference.

If your bulletproof vest is looking sad then head back to the servants quarters and inspect the bedrooms. One of them has a spare vest, a couple of them have Yakuza inspecting women's clothes in the wardrobes who wont see you coming until its too late.

Library Hostage

The door opposite the desk in the office opens directly into the library where a lot of people will try and kill you and nobody will say Ssshhh... The good news is that when the door opens you get a clear view of  the hostage and her captor. Use the telescopic rifle, open the door, get the captor between the eyes then step backwards and sideways into the office for protection while you change to another weapon.  You may get the chance to pick off one or more of the guys shooting from the upstairs gallery before you change. Reenter the library firing at the position you know in advance the guards to be in, ducking back for cover when needed.

Once the downstairs guards are taken care of there may still be some upstairs.  If you step to the left you can take cover in the entranceway at the base of the left-hand staircase while you pick off the upstairs baddies.

Before going for the code key, if you want you could run up the library stairs and turn left. The door on the right leads out onto a balcony from where you can have fun picking off guards patrolling the library garden. This isn't necessary though since they don't stand between you and your final objective - but it can be satisfying if you have just received a lot of damage from the mob in the library.

Code key

This is in Mayhew's bedroom. To get there, walk through the library (ground floor) in the direction of the stairs and exit by the opening in the far right hand corner. Slow down and stop when you see the open door to the WC and a Yasuka washing his hands.

From the hallway you should be able to see the back of the guy washing his hands. Use the tranquilizing dart pen (press G and scroll) to silently put him to sleep. That's the last easy guard.

If you turn right now you are in Mayhews lounge, behind this (through a door) is the bedroom. There are baddies everywhere. The good news is that off the bedroom is a dressing room with bullet proof vest. If things start looking bad you can dive for that, shut the door behind you, don the vest and emerge to carry on.

From now on its a case of  full frontal assault. Try this. Load the machine gun, throw in a hand grenade, then throw in a flash bomb. Arm yourself with the machine gun, don the special glasses and run into the confusion firing at will. You have to do it all very quickly which is a lot easier if you have a mouse wheel to quickly change weapons.

Once the commotion has died down you will find an ornamental dragon next to the bed. Press E to use it and a safe will open displaying the code key and a stack of money.

You have now fulfilled all the objectives and only have to retrace your steps back to the bunker to get Mayhew's undying gratitude. There is a surprise waiting for you there though...
