Production Still Underway on Treasure Planet Sequel & Series
As Walt Disney Company spokesmen are telling the financial press that this film was such an enormous failure that the corporation was forced to take a $74 million pre-tax write-down on this picture, the staff at Walt Disney Television Animation is still hard at work on follow-ups to this alleged flop: a Treasure Planet II direct-to-video sequel as well as Treasure Planet: The Animated Series. Upcoming DTV Releases & A TV Series for Treasure Planet?
Thomas Schumacher, President of Walt Disney Feature Animation revealed to Cinescape that future direct-to-video releases of Treasure Planet and a television series are already being considered. "We’ve got a story and some storyboards and concepts up and a script for a what a sequel to this could be. There’s also a notion of what a series could be. I have all the pieces in place and should we [decide] to push the button, we push the button and go with it."
