Customised Keris

The forging of keris blade is not a business to be handled by amateurs. Each blade represents the "soul" of its master. Therefore, its forging would require the utmost care and attention. A typical keris would take about 2-3 months to prepare. Special grade keris, such as the melela, unduk-unduk or tajong can take up to six months or more. Once placed, your order will be processed by our keris master, who will determine the most suitable type of keris for you. He will produce a detailed diagram that will be returned to you for your approval.

Once we receive your approval and payment for the said keris, our smiths will go to work forging a new blade for a new master. We are fortunate to have at our disposal a select team of artists and craftsmen, many of whom inherited their knowledge of keris-making from their forefathers. Some have had apprenticed under the great (late) Tengku Ibrahim and the late Nik Rashiddin, masters of the art of carving keris hilts.

A new keris will begin to take shape from its blade. Layers of different grades of steel will be forged into a single blade that will be customised to fit the owner's requirements. Some obtain a keris for its aesthetics, some for its power, while others regard the keris as a useful tool in trade, luck and none the least, war. A different blade for a different occasion.

Once the blade is completed, the hilt and sheath would then be fashioned out of blocks of selected kemuning, kenaung, ketengga, sena, bongor or halban woods. Each hilt and sheath, like the blade, is hand-made for a perfect fit. When the basic shape of the hilt and sheath is achieved, our master smith will start on the finishing touches of the keris.

From start to finish, your keris will be handled by trained professionals and its quality will be carefully monitored by our keris master. Only when we are satisfied of the end product will the keris, carefully packed, be delivered to you.
