Parents PowerOur Mission

Parent’s Power aims to give support and information to disabled parents of all disabilities within the borough of Bexley. Membership of the group will be open to any parent resident in the borough of Bexley who has any kind of disability. Membership will be open to all disabled parents, regardless of age, sex, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, marital status or religious persuasion. Parents and children will have the opportunity to meet regularly in an accessible building with facilities that will enable parents to use the support group. These facilities will be in the form of voluntary help as well as paid help raised through fundraising. This will enable the member to use all resources/equipment available to the group.  Members will also meet annually for reports and to elect a committee. The committee will consist of Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, treasurer and representatives of ordinary members.  The committee will meet regularly to discuss the implementation of current aims and objectives.  All Committee members present at monthly meetings will evaluate goals before they are set.

Representatives of the committee will continue to communicate and translate the wishes of disabled parents within the borough of Bexley.  Information will be collated through group discussion, meetings, literature, telephone conversation and organised events.

We also aim to continue to educate professional organisations by forming partnerships. This includes the continued involvement in the new “ Young carers project” funded by social services and run by the voluntary sector. This will provide a club for children of disabled parents for 8-17 year olds. A few of our future goals are to help set up a club for under 8’s and change attitudes towards parenting with a disability by giving us the ability to “enjoy parenting by giving and receiving support”.  We will provide “funtime” for the under eight’s at our monthly meetings by providing a crèche from funds raised by the group or from other resources.

Funds raised for and by the group will be spent through the approval of the Committee members. The treasurer will report on accounts at regular interval’s providing evidence of monies spent. Funds will be put into a suitable bank or building society account. Withdrawal of any money from the account will need the signature of one of the named committee members plus the co-ordinator (two named Committee members and the Co-ordinator will be approved). An independent accounting body will oversee the accounts, once the group has achieved charity status and when cash flow reaches these legal requirements.

If the group folds, assets will be transferred to another group in the Borough with similar aims and objectives. The group selected will be agreed by the members.

This version of the constitution was adapted by the Committee on 09/11/02.
