Own-Root Fruit Trees

PROJECTS

Here are some pictures (02/02) from Brittany (near Morlaix & Lannion) where we have started to create a Coppice Orchard

The piece of land that we are using was covered in brambles, Elm trees and suckers, Nettles and Bracken, it is 25m by 28m approx and well exposed to the South. Most of the work is going into clearing the land and we have just started installation of the Coppice Orchard although there is still plenty of clearing to do. All the brambles and small branches are chipped and this with cardboard we are using to mulch the trees and pathways the latter running South to North and vice versa. The 4m by 3.5m areas around the apples which will be the growing beds we are covering with black plastic (old silage cover which the local farmers usually burn). More news updates to follow.

Phil Corbett and Steve Read will be teaching a full Permaculture Design course here in August 2002, for more info please go to the Courses page
