Joshua Sermons

Flora Marathon 2004

Are you facing a formidable, insurmountable, impenetrable wall in your lives?
How are you going to handle it?

In c6 we are given all the principles by which we should take down the wall of the enemy:
It is by Faith.
We see that faith works,
that faith makes war,
that faith waits on God,
that faith wins.

1.

Rule of Action

a)

Joshua ascertains the will and word of God

How? Matt 6 Ask, seek, knock. It talks about spending a lot of time doing just that in the presence of God. Don't rush into battle! - Until you have ascertained the will and word of God for you personally.
E.g. Acts 13:1-3 God spoke to the Church in Antioch about sending out 2 special people, Barnabus and Paul,
while they were worshipping the Lord and fasting; the Holy Spirit effectively sent them.

The Lord chose Jericho for Israel for a purpose, and they took time to listen to him to see what God wanted them to do to overcome this enemy.
If we don't know what to do when faced by an enemy, take time with God, don't just pop in prayer for an instant coffee time, instead wait on God in his presence.

Josh 6:10 You shall not shout et until the day I tell you to shout!

Keep quiet you noisy bunch! Xians, like the Jews, are such a bunch of talkers! But God wanted 1.5 m Jews to be quiet for 6 days! God has some sense of humour!
Millions of voices are shouting at us daily, we need to shut up and listen to the voice of God!
b) We are to obey the will and word of God implicitly
Most of us don't have too much difficulty knowing the will of God on many issues – it is laid down in Goddess word. It is not the knowing but the doing that is the problem. So few do it today. This is true of the latest C of E fiasco. It is not about one man’s domestic arrangements, it is about the authority of the word of God and about Christians and especially Christian leaders living by that word isn’t it?

Great Christians
do the will of God. Sadly many do not have that satisfaction. Doing the will of God brings permanency and maturity to our lives (1Jn 2: 14 – He who does the will of the Lord abides [with God] forever).
