Montchavin (altitude: 1250 m) is a small village which has kept it's old-fashioned charm . It dates back in places to the 15th Century and although now a modern ski resort it has retained its original structure of narrow cobbled streets and pretty chalet style buildings. Everything is to hand, supermarket, bakery, newsagents, restaurants, shops, ski schools and lifts... no walking miles in ski boots or waiting for ski buses! It even boasts a cinema and a disco (sensibly situated well away from the residential area!) and there is a full programme of entertainment put on each week with street entertainers for the children and shows in the summer. On specials occasions (Christmas, New Year, etc ) there are spectacular torch light descent's , ski shows and fireworks displays. The village has a range of excellent restaurants most of which, like the supermarket, do 'take aways'. There is an ice rink which can easily be reached by going up in the gondola or taking the ski bus or Mini- train (Summer) to Les Coches. The large swimming pool is for use in the summer. In the winter you can take your swimming things over to Plagne Bellecote where there is a heated outdoor pool! The brave can try out the Olympic Bobsleigh run at la Plagne, Paraplaning, heliskiing or Skidoos. For the less adventurous there are guided walks using snow shoes, extensive cross country skiing or night skiing on the flood-lit runs down to the village. The
links via gondola or the new chair lift guarantee fast access
into 'Paradiski' one of the largest ski areas in Europe.
