2nd Version British Commandos - These are the "famous" 1/72-76 scale
Airfix Commandos.
Not only British, but they could be used as Free-French or Polish commandos too. Easy to paint as they have pleny of raised detail. Base colour, drybrush, touch-up details and ready to wargame. Unfortunately, Airfix only released these figures on a short production run about 20 years ago and they are difficult to find nowadays. They are actually nearly all scaled-down versions of Airfix's 1/32 scale commandos. For some reason that's still unclear they prefer to market the toylike, (but charming of course), 1st version commandos shown in the picture below.
It's "rumoured" the 2nd version
molds are lost, but I prefer to believe that's just an excuse for Airfix
not having anyone who really knows or cares where the mold might be (rusting
away in a corner somewhere
There was a similar mystery surrounding Airfix's Wagon Train set that miraculously resucitated out of thin air recently...... Still, for what it's worth, hopefully these Airifx figures will be re-released one day.
