MojoPac:
If you have ever wanted to carry your own Computer around, but would prefer it to fit into your pocket, MojoPac could be for you. This tiny application (12.9Mb Download) can now be installed on your PC in a folder(a la Virtual Pc fashion) or on an external Flash/Pen Drive.
They say...
MojoPac turns your iPod or USB 2.0 Flash or Hard Drive into an ultra portable PC. When you connect your MojoPac device into any Windows XP PC, you bring up your MojoPac PC view. You can see that it looks like a brand new Windows XP PC (with a MojoPac wallpaper). You have the familiar Start Menu, and the folders are arranged exactly like in a standard PC. And it is all installed on and running from your iPod or USB device.
* You can install applications, run already installed applications, browse the internet, create files, listen to multimedia content, and customize your view.
* You can customize this PC (change the wallpaper, create folders, etc.) exactly the same way you would do with a normal PC.
* You have access to the network connection and the peripherals (printers, plotters, etc) of the PC you are connecting to. And your applications will run at full speed of that PC.
What is great is that you will see the exact same view whenever you connect your MojoPac device to ANY PC. So MojoPac allows you to go to any PC in the world and make it your own.
I say...
Having used the program for some time now I can honestly say that I'm impressed. I'm on an extremely tight budget at present so I use the Freedom Version of the software.
This is the totally free version of the product. The Deluxe Version costs $49.99 (Roughly £25).
I have MojoPac installed on an 8Gb Corsair Voyager Flash Drive with:
*Office 2007 Enterprise Edition (Full Install)
*Dreamweaver 8
*Fireworks 8
*Flash 8
*Quicktime
*Adobe Reader 8.01
*FireFox 2
*Opera
Plus 500Mb of Miscelaneous stuff not related to the install and I still have 56% or 4.2Gb of free space.
You might want to get a really fast Flash Drive
as MojoPac can be a tad sluggish at times especially when installing stuff and starting an Application. Even when you've optimised the Drive for performance.
Having said that This page was created using Dreamweaver 8 on the MojoPac System with no real performance issuses.
There are a few things that are a pain:-
* At present it can't run when attached to a Vista Machine (does anything lol)
* It can't run on a restricted User Account unless MojoPac Usher is installed by someone with an Administrator Account (good luck on that score)
* It isn't a stand alone bootabe OS (don't know if they plan to crack that one)
Overall I think it's a cracking good program that allows me to take my Base Station with me wherever I go. Ok I need to find another Computer to use it but it's a darn sight cheaper than a Laptop and doesn't need to be re-charged after a couple of hours use (unless it's pluged in to a laptop).
If you're one of those individuals who must have a portable, bootable OS then I doubt that you'll like this software much. However I'm happy to know that if My System goes pear shaped, or worse, the Motherboard fries, I wont have to wait hours, days or weeks to get everything as it was.
All I'll need to do is get a Basic System up and running, or pop over to a friends, plug in the flash drive and all my important stuff is ready to go
again. (I did have identical copies of everything in "My Documents." Didn't I ?...... erhm oops! My bads!)
Overall 88%
