The final part to this section, the removal of the paint over certain surfaces. As we can see on these bmps the windows are painted instead of physically cut out of the aircraft model (to help with performance). We'll need to remove the paint off of the windows and around door frames amongst other things. We have to do this here as this paint kit is un layered, a well made paint kit will be layered and most likely you'll just be able to have the windows layer higher than the paint scheme layer. Select the Magic Wand Tool (W) and set the tolerance level to around 10, change the tolerance via the box under the menu bar when the tool is selected. Select the very bottom layer named "Background". This contains everything that was present when we first started work on it. In order to use the Magic Wand Tool we need to have the layer, with the objects we wish to select, selected. Zoom a far way in to the paint scheme and click the Magic Wand Tool on one of the windows.
It should select all of the windows present in this layer, this is because they all contain the same colours. As well as the windows the Magic Wand Tool has probably selected quite a few other things, don't worry about this we'll come to that shortly. Double click on the Zoom Tool (Z) to view the entire document.
We can see that all the windows have been chosen as well as the bottom of the door frames and one of the fuselage door handles. Using the marquee tools available add or remove to the selection by swapping between the Add and Subtract from selection buttons. These options are displayed top left under the menu bar when any marquee tool is selected.
Remember that it doesn't matter if you miss something out, you can always remove it after deleting the areas from the first selection. Before removing any of the paint scheme, it may be useful to duplicate the layer and keep it incase you ever need to use it. Click on the appropriate paint scheme layer and hit delete, work through all of the layers removing the paint. For the logo you're going to need to open the "My Travel Logo" layer folder. We retained the logo pieces as vector graphics and as such can't have any of the object removed. We could add a layer mask, but just to keep things simple duplicate both the blue and orange ovals. Deactivate the duplicates and right click on the visible layers. Select "Rasterize Layer" from the list.
You will now be able to remove the paint from them. Once finished, press Crtl+D to deselect the selection. Take a look over all the windows and other appropriate areas, if there are any small bits still left use the marquee tools and Eraser Tool (E).
A good method to remove the paint from the door frames is as follows: Select the Rectangular Marquee tool (M) and create a selection the height and width of one side of the door frame.
Draw a selection for the top and other side of the door frame.
Select the Polygonal Lasso Tool (L) and select the mode as Add to Selection (top left under the menu bar). Use the tool to make the selection for the curves around the frame. Double click to auto complete the selection.
Once happy with the selection, make sure you have the appropriate layer selected and hit delete. You should now have one nice looking.. door frame. Press Crtl+D to deselect the selection.
Save the psd, its time to check out the fruits of your labour in flight sim.
