Map Files
This page contains Garmin Mapsource IMG format files for UK airspace. It should be possible to load these files, using suitable software, onto any Mapsource-capable Garmin GPS with sufficient memory.
Although likely to be updated and published regularly, there can be no guarantees about the currency of data in these files!
The data provided by Rory is split into multiple separate files, with different airmap features stored in different files. By way of example, MATZs are encoded in a separate file, so weekend pilots don't have to load them! There are various other properties of these maps which are sailplane orientated or optimised for display on the GPS 3+. In particular, showing ATZ radio frequencies rather than ATZ altitudes, and some of the ways in which some airspace elements are drawn or labelled.
To try and optimise the maps for use on a GPS76, I've made some changes to the files, as follows:
The data has been merged into a single IMG file
Various map options have been set to try and produce the best range of scales under which the airmap is visible rather than the basemap
Some of the map object types have been changed to improve the clarity of the display and labelling
The resulting file is available here, based upon the files from Rory's site: UK AIR format files issued Apr-2004
Tweaked UK Airspace file Apr-2004
You will now need some software to upload these maps to your GPS unit...
