Nunthorpe
Athletic 1 v 5 Marton Hall Drive
At last a win and a good performance!
Marton came into this game with 4 defeats on the
trot and a much-needed win was required to restore confidence throughout the
team. Marton had the early possession against a hard working Athletic side.
Marton’s first opportunity of the game fell to Dom Shaw but his final shot was
well saved by the Athletic keeper. With only 10 mins gone Matty Mcqueeney
received the ball near the edge of the 18-yard box and with only one thing on
his mind he casually lobbed the keeper to put Marton in front. Lee Robinson was
in fine form in the left midfield position for Marton. Time and time again he
would attack the full back and whip over cross after cross with Rory Dobbs
unlucky with his header which went wide of the target.
Nunthorpe were battling hard to stay in the game after one of
their players was withdrawn through illness. Marton increased their lead with
Mcqueeney once again causing all the damage. He picked the ball up just outside
the penalty area, turned his marker and hit a low drive with the keeper only
pushing the ball into the net.
Nunthorpe responded instantly with Matty Rodgers hitting a shot
just wide of the Marton goal. With time running out for Nunthorpe, Robinson
rounded off a fine run on goal with a great strike to put Marton 3 up. Rory
Dobbs made it 4-0 with a well-executed header from a Yates corner and Mcqueeney
completed his 6th hat trick of the season and Marton’s 5th
with the keeper again making a super diving save but Mcqueeney’s “Predator like
instincts” followed the ball home. Nunthorpe still battled on to their credit
and deservedly scored a consolation goal with a well-taken effort by Daniel
Heaton.
