Marton Hall
Drive 0 v 3 Leven A.F.C.
Marton produce shambolic performance!
Marton came into this game with 6 wins out of
7 in the league and where looking to extend their lead at the top of the 1st
division but Leven had other ideas. Leven started the game with only ten men on
the pitch for the first 15 minutes and astonishingly went ahead with a great
individual goal by Andy Blackburn.
Marton regrouped and set about pulling back an equaliser but top striker Mcqueeney
blazed a shot wide after a cross from Lunn. Marton continued to push forward
with a quick free kick on the edge of the box by Mills who found Lunn in acres
of space but Leven keeper Matty Hurren was equal to the task and saved
comfortably.
Marton where being forced to have long range efforts on goal which didn't
trouble the Leven. Hurren in the Leven goal was looking very sharp. Leven tested
the Marton rear gaurd when Alex Brown weaved past two players on the halfway
line he whipped in a cross but the final shot hit the outside of the post for a
goal kick.
At the start of the 2nd half Leven went further ahead when Rushforth chipped
Rodgers in the Marton goal to put the visitors 2 up. Marton made a host of
substitutions and for 15 minutes looked to be getting back into the game. A
deep cross by Sumners found Robinson unmarked at the back post but his header
just went wide of the post. Sumners had a free kick from just outside the box
and with the keeper arranging his wall he took it quick, with an open goal at
his mercy he hit the top of the bar. Marton continued to try to battle back but
with time running out Leven hit them on the break again with a cool finish from
a good move which exposed the Marton defence and sealed there 2nd home defeat of
the season
