Marton march forward to net round !

Reigning league cup winners for the last two seasons Marton Hall Drive where the hosts in this 1st Div versus 2nd clash with Fishburn. Fishburn had the first opportunity of the game when a well-taken free kick was saved by Rodgers in the Marton goal. Marton opened up the scoring with a great finish by top striker Mcqueeney with only 3 minutes gone. Fishburn responded instantly with a clinical finish by Michael Owens who cracked a
low drive under Rodgers. Fishburn weren't overawed by Marton and played some neat tidy football in the opening exchanges. Marton's strike force were struggling to get going and with two clear chances to put themselves in the lead they shot wide of the mark.
The Fishburn keeper was making save after save to deny Dobbs but with time running out in the half. Lunn raced past the full back to put a deep cross in the box for Mcqueeney, he hooked the ball to the back post for Dom Shaw to tap home his first goal of the season.
Straight from the re-start Fishburn waltzed down the opposite end and punished the static Marton defence with Owens the Fishburn striker twisting and turning and firing the ball into the net.
Marton started the 2nd period with more passion and pride in their game with Anthony Carling and Nick Matthews catching the eye. Marton had two corners in succession with Mcqueeney volleying over from 8 yards out.
Marton took a strangle hold on the game when the pace of Lunn finally paid off. He ran from just inside his own half with lightning speed to coolly chip the advancing keeper to make the score 3-2.
Marton continued to force back the Fishburn defence with two strong attacks from Dobbs and Shaw who both had shots saved by the superb Fishburn keeper. Fishburn where unlucky when a bright attack ended with a goal line clearance by stand in left back Robinson. Marton weathered the late surge by Fishburn and went further in front when Dobbs was brought down for a penalty. Mcqueeney placed the ball past the diving keeper for his 2nd of the game.
Marton marched on to the next round when Dobbs ran free from the covering defender to round the keeper and place the ball into the empty net.
