This is the most important thing to consider when playing the machines. Get this wrong
and you
will be throwing your money away. It can be very difficult to judge some models if you
have just
come into the arcade or pub. If you have been in the place for a while, you can watch
people
put money in and use that information to decide if you should play.
As you become more familiar with the different types of machines and their
manufacturers, making
accurate assessments of a machines win potential will become easier. Below is a
generalised guide
showing the various ways to work out this Win Potential .
If there is someone playing or has just finished and has put a lot of money into
it without taking
much back. This gives the machine a fair Win Potential.
- If the tubes are full, (look through the window where the reels are, look towards the
far right
on the inside of the machine), and, as long as the staff have not filled it up that day,
this also
increases the machines Win Potential greatly. Some newer machines do not have tubes,
instead
they have a large hopper type bucket that holds the money. You can tell if a machine uses
one
of these by the sound it makes when it pays out, a sharp thud per coin indicates the
machine
uses tubes, whereas a sickly, continuous, noise indicates the hopper is in use.
- Some of the new, all cash, machines have a cashpot feature. As the machine is played,
the
amount of money in the pot increases. If you play a machine with very little or no money
in the
pot, it does not mean the machine is not going to pay out. The reason for this is because
the
cashpot is not controlled by the machines payout percentage programme. Also, if a cashpot
has just paid out and, the cashpot value starts increasing again very quickly, it means
that the
previous cashpot/s have been at the maximum for a long period of time. A good way to think
of it is this. Let s say that the cashpot must increase by one pound for every 5 pound
played.
Then let s also say that the cashpot has been filled up and another 30 pound worth of
credits
has been played. The cashpot is taken and starts to fill up again because the
machine owes
the cashpot 6 pounds (i.e. 30/5=6). These figures are for demonstration purposes
only and
the actual formulae differs for each machine model. So basically, if the cashpot has been
taken and there hasn t been anything else paid, you may still get a good payout. However,
some machines have features that will allow you to take the cashpot and the reserve
cashpot,
so be careful.
- When you have decided to try a couple of credits in the machine, be very careful that it
doesn t trick you into believing that it s going to pay out when in fact it is robbing you
blind.
The machine may give loads of nudges, holds and bonuses without a chance of a win. It
could give you a small win or a board and then take it off you when you gamble it or try
to go around the board to gain a feature. If you come away from a machine like this and
you ve only paid a fiver to have the privilege of being robbed. This is much better than
winning 20 quid after putting in 45 quid to get it. You are wanting maximum returns for
minimum investment.
- Sometimes you ll see someone playing a machine who obviously hasn t got a clue.
The amount of times I have seen someone get a win or board on his last credit and
takes the money and walks away. So what? I here you ask. Don t forget that some wins
and features have a repeat chance. Keep your eyes on the machines and you ll not regret
it. This doesn t mean the machines going to pay a lot of money. It does mean that you've
got a great chance of getting a quick win from one credit, don t forget that it may repeat
again.
