The Numbing

"Womb Words" by Vanessa Marsh

The Numbing

They wear white for goodness,
Masked angels with sober voices and soft shoes;
Vision is sound, the scrape of polished metal,
Squeal of tortured rubber against the lino.
They harnessed my legs apart
But this is not reception of a lover,
The act of love is not conducted thus.
From my thin lips, repulsive, unwilled,
I offer a prayer.
